Hearing had on assessment roll a3ad of awards of damages and assessments of benefits in the matter of Vacation Resolution No. 44 for the Vacation of 1st. alley mouth of Dyba. it Avenue from. Dale Avenue to 110 feet crest, in the City of South Bend, Indiana. In the above matter no remonstrators appeared and no written reman-- strance was filed, the Board therefor; declare the above roll filed August e-th. ,1918 in all things ratified, confirmed and approved and the proceedings closed. Hearing had on condemnation Resolution No. 52 for the opening of an alley north: of Madison Street from Lafayette Blvd to the 1st. alley west, in the City of South Bend, Indiana. In the: -above matter no remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances Were filed. ( A number.of interested property owners appeared for said improvement). The Board after due consideration decided to defer ill action on said resolution until Wednesday September 25th.01918 at 7:1� P.M. Contractors bond � f or the amount of One Thousand Dollars signed by Otto Beyer was approved by the Board: The following c ommuni^at ions were received read and placed on file. August 7th.,1918. Board of Public Works, South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen:- - - —We- have - been -re -quested to install gas mains upon Portage Avenue, in advance of the improvement authorized by you as No. 584, July 2nd.,1918. The United Staters Go vernment has been very urgent that Utilities limit their capital expenditures to as sma CI amount as is possible. -The financial condition of toe county makes it almost impossible to secure capital for investment such as this. The iron and stall market is in such condition as to make it prgatically impossible to secure a pipe. The gas eonsuffiptlon which would accrue from the installation of this main would 'not warrant us in making application for either capital or material. When conditions against return to normal and the property along the line of this improvement developer, f feel quite certain that it will be _the policy of this Company to make every effort to install this main, which installation can be made without d isturb ing the pavement. o Yours very truly, C. Gent lemen: I wish to state that we will be able to provide gas connections to such portion of Blaine Avenue recently paved, on which we have no gas mains, by connections through the alleys avoiding the necessity of disturbing this pavement by the installation of gls cma ns. This letter covers the improvement of Blaine Ave. from Lincoln Way test to Portage Avenue, authorized by you on the 13th., day of March 1918. Yours very truly, C. A. The following resalut ions was approved by the Board. RES0LUTI0N.` It was unanimously decided by the. Board of Public Works, that resolution Ns. 584 for water conneetions on. Portage Avenue between alley north of Kinyon Street and CityLimits, be modified as recommended by the City Superintendent of Water Worms.under date of August 28th.,1918, the same to read as follows:-• That all water taps to be put in on Portage Avenue under Improvement -Resolution No. 584 to be One ( 1" ) ineh- tap and One (1) tip, the number and kind of -tap to be installed are shown by red inkk on said resolution. . The C it,,r Engineer -submitted the list of property owners in the natter of the appropriation of certain property under Condemnation Resolution We. 51 for the Widening of Oakland Street from St. Joseph River is 'Mishawaka Avenue as per resolution on page 22a of this record, Which list includes the names of the owners and holders of property and of interests therein sought to be taken or beneficially affected, and the descriptiox of the several pieces of property which is affected by the said anprepri- ation proceedings. Thereupon the Board proceeded to award the damages sustained and to assess the benefits accruing to `each piece of property upon said list.
