Clark instructed .to Notify Chicago, South Bend & Northern Indiana Ry. ,Company, that if they did not move pole located at the Corner of Lincoih Way' Pest and Taylor Street which, stands . in the way of drive into Standard oil Company filling 'stations -that the City, would move .the same and charge ex -eases to their company. Referring to your �etter of May 29th.0 1918 requesting a report of the conditions of the Buil.din; Department", I respectfully submit the following. There are at present 2.20 active building, permits i.e. permits for work which. has not been finally inspected ad a, -proved. The value of the .work covered by these permits is $860.897.00. There is one moving permit, f;r which a deposit of $50.00 is being held p end ing filing of proper affidavits against it, The limit of , t itme for f it i.ng affidavits is June 7th. ,1918. There are three condemnation erders, which have been issued by the department, which have not been satisfactory disposed of. One building - at 214 North Michigan Street, which the owner has .not removed. This building has already been: r*terred tbthe Board of Public Works, but ado advice has been received of what action was taken. out building at 413 South St. Joseph Street whose walls are temporarily braced. This eoadition was rjermitted temporarily pending rec©x- struetiox, brit is net regarded as permanently safe, If reconstruction work is not started within two or three weeks, . Commissioxer of Buildings, City Ekeetric ian- a.nd Clerk. The work of the department during the past month has been ordinary and the present force in evidently adequate, to handle the situation. An 8 Horse power electric motor drives, a fax which. drives the air through a system of hewing c,oils. From the heating coif the air is carried by a duet, which is built in .connections With the smoke flue, up to the attic ,over the Courc it Chamber a c ent ilua.t ioat of the duet carries the air above the ceiling of the Couac it Chamber and f inallyv ischarg*s it through ceiling re►gistars into the Council Chambers. The capacity _a f the motor, fait, and heat ing coils is ample t d heat the room but there is such, a great loss of air clue to leakage and less of heut': due to insulation of the attic duct that the system completely fails to heat the Council, ; number in' cold we VA ther. _ . It its estimated the, cost of this alteration will be about 1150.00 To install direct radiation will necessitate the placing of 450 square feet of cast iron rad iat ion on the Council Chamber floor and the running of proper risers from the maims in the basement up to serve it.
