Yr. W. D. Teeple, Assistant Commissioner of Bldgs. met with the Board
and' the fallowing order was approved by the Board.
It was resolved by the Board of Public'Works that W. D. Teeple
Assistant Commissioner of Buildings in this City, be and is hereby authorized
by this Board to take charge of the4Building department temporakily until the
filling of the vamancy of the Commtiss ionership, due to the res ignat ion of Mr. CL.
A. Perkins. Mr. W. D. Teeple to receive all moneys belong to this department
and all fees to be paid ®this department during his temporary arrangements

Gentlemen: -
In eegard to the attadhed petition for s pavement on Kline Street from
Lincoln Way East to Calvert St. and on Calvert Street from Kline Street to Leer
Street, I wish to report that the assessed valuation, of the property on these
streets &a so love that we cannot'legally go ahead with these improvements unlos&
at least eight per cent of the freeholders petition for the improvements.
There ape about thirty seven freeholders interested in these improve-
ments, and only twenty-one names on the petition, some of whom are not freeholders
Under •the conditions which exist, I have deferred preparing the resolu-
tion Ordered by the Board in order to find out if they still wish to go ahead
with the proceedings.

Resolved by the Board of Public Forks of the City, of South Bend, Indiana:
That the following dsscr ibed property be appropriated for the use of Said City for the
widening of Oakland Strut $r®a uniform width of 60• feet from the south line of Mishawaka
Avenue to the St. Joseph River in• the City of South Bend, Ind in St Joseph County of the
State of Ind lane,,; by the c ondemnat ion and appropr ia,t ion of suff icent lots and lands for
such widening spec i'i.dally described as follows, to -wit: - Beginning at.a point on the
south line of. Mishawaka Avenue 30 feet east of the intersection of. the west line of
Oakland Street; thence east an the south lin of Mishawaka Avenue 30 feet; thence south
parallel with and 60 feet east of the west line of Oakland Street to the St.' Joseph River;
thence down stream -with said river to a paint 30 feet east of the west line of Oakland
Street extended south; thence north parallel with and 30 feet east of the west line of
said Oakland Street to the place of beginning, `
The following describd property may be injuriously or bbnef isially affected
by such appropriation: in the City of South Bend by the widening 36 said Oakland Street as
above described, is known and described as the ground herein proposed tobe condemned and
appropriated therefor`, are all the lets and lands and parcels of lots lying within the
following described territory in the City of South Bend, to -wit: -Beginning en the south
line of Mishawaka Avenue to a, Point 120 feet west of the west line of. Oakland'Street; thence
east on the south line of Mishewaks Avenue to a. point 1184 feet unrest of the west line of
Clover Street; thence south parallel with and 118-� feet went of the west line of Clover
Street and Clever Street extended southto the -St. Joseph River; thence.down stream
with the meandarines of slid river. to a point t2o feet West of the west line of Oakland
Street extended south; thence north parallel with and 120 feet west of the west line of
said Oakland Street to the place of beginning.
The purposes o�r such appropriation is for the, Widaning of Oakland
Street, in the City of South Bend, Indiana.
Notice of this resolution shall be published on the 4th. day of June 1918
and on the llth., day of June 1918 in the South bend Daily Tribune,
This Board, at its office in the City Hall on the 19th., day of June
1918 at 7: 15 P.M. will hear -4,nd receive remonstrances from all persons interested in -
or affected by these proceedings.
