C..Bayton, Street Commissioner reported. on complaint about defective walk at 130 south Main Street as follows:-. Mr. Williams, Contractor premises to repair same at once,, -if he does not de it as he agrees, the Street Department will repair same under Ordinance. Ur. H. A. Wood and Goo. Harrep notified the Board that it was agreeable to them to release mosey heid up on Grading contract of Harry N Barnes on Portage Avenud. The Board instructed the Clerk to aotiffe Ctty Controller John W. Swygart to release the sum of Eight hundred ($800.00)Dellars ordered hold up on Portage Avenue. Grading contract improvement. Renewal certifeate filed by the American Surety Company for V Staples and Ackerman for the year of 1918 same approved by the Board. Petition filed with the Board for pavement on Kline Street from d Lincoln Way East to Calvert Street and Calvert Street from Kline Street west to Leer Street or Miami Street. Same read and placed on file. Pole and Wire Inspector reported as follows on complaints about telephone poles. In regard to complaint about telephone polo in way of garage at 1125 Harvey Street,. this is ..an 1adiana & :Michigan Elec. Co. pole joint No. 30300 also Home Tel. The following communication received read and approved by the Board as follows:- Board of Public'Werks, 4/8.1918, City~ of South' Bend, Indiana.--. Gentlemen: - We purpose to furnish labor and material to erect ceiling joist in new squad room, City Hall as follows: Furnish new 2 X 4 ceiling joist, between each present joist out out brick for said joist, furnish new braces where needed, for b:he sum of Fifty Nine and 50/100 Dollars ($59.50). Trusting to be -favored with instructions to proceed with above -work, Yours truly, ECKLER CONSTRUCTION AND SUPPLY CO. By WGEckler. It was rbsolved by unanimous consent of the Board that the Clerk be instructed to notify the Chicago, South Bend & Northern Indiana Railway Company to remove their tracks now on Ernsperger Street off of space to be occupied by a sidewalk and curb, contract for which has been let to be constructed an said street between Lincoln Way East and Bridge ever the St. Joseph River. By unanimous consent of the Board thecontract for steam roller was awarded to the Buffalo -Springfield Roller Company of Springfield, Ohio, for on Ten(10) ton Standard Buffalo Pitts Macadam steam roller with attached steam pressure scarifer for thesum of 04 250.00 to be paid in following manner: $3, 550.00 in cash on delivery of said roller, the balance in said purchase price amounting to $700.00 to be paid by the transfer and delivery on demand at South Bend, Ind. one seend hand Kelley -Spring - ,field Macadam roller, Shop No.886. It is understand and agreed that this contract shall be come effective upon the ratification by proper ordinance of the Common Council of this City, said ordinance to be submitted as soon as this contract is approved of by Buffalo -Springfield Roller Co., -77 Y 14.9 Concerning; the improvement of the roadway of Jefferson Blvdi frcr. RES GLUT IO)d FOR SERVICE CONNECTIONS WITH MAINS* WHEREAS, the Board of Public Works on the loth., day of March 1918 did adopt a resolution ordering and requiring the permanent improvement of Harvey Street C. from Allen Street to Blaine Avenue, by paving the roadway of the same, and WHEREAS, the ,City Civil Engineer has prepared and filed in the off is e of this Board a report shotigg the number and location of the service pipes, mains, con- duits, laterals, and connections which are, or will be necaa ary to accommodate the abutting property and the owners thereof with gas, water, sewer, a44 other conveniences end necessaries; and also said City Civil -Engineer has preparers, and Flied in said office. speci- ficatione showing the material to be used and the manner of Iaying said service pipes, mains,, conduits, laterals and connections from the ma ins; o the points inside of the curb lines THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend ote6be , Indiana, that the report of the City Civil Engineer is adopted, and said report nd the specifications prepared and filed by him are made a part of this resolution as fully and effectually as if copied herein -in Full length - and it -is further orderedl that ill of such private connections with the sewer, gas and water mains be made in said street by bringing them inside the curb lines thereof. that notice And be it further resolved by publication for two successive days in the South Bend Daily Tribune, a newspaper of general circulation printed quid published in the City of South Bend, Indiana, be given to the owners of the property abutting upon said street to be improved directing them.to make such sewer and water connections on or before the 9th.0 day of May 1918 and that if said connections are not made on or before said time and in accordance with - the spec if icat ions and report on file in the office of the Board Bf Public Works, then said Board will cause the same to be made and will assess the cost. thereof against the property abutting upon said street, and shall do all other other things pertaining thereto according to the provisions and requirements of Ordinance No. 1842 adopted by the Common Council of the City of South Bend on July 24th.,1916, and of all other ordinances and laws relating thereto. And, be it further resolved and ordered that after the 20' day period has elapsed for the making of said connections by the property ownerb, a notice shall be published for two weeks, once each week, in the South Bend Daily Tribune, a newspaper of general circulation published . in said City, , requesting bids from castracotre for the mking of such connections as have not been made by the property owners, and such notice shall fix a day, not earlier than ten.days after the first of such publications, When bids shall be opened and a contract let for the doing of said work. And be it further ordered that the Northern Indiana Gas & Electric Company which"holds a franchise from, and is empowered by sadd city to furnish - art if ical gas to the citizens thereof, and is engaged in said business in said City, is hereby directed to make and in tall all service eonnecti z with its mains in said strut in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance No. 1555, adopted June 27 1910, and such other ordinances or laws applicable thereto; which Bonne ctions are shown upon the report of'the City Civil Engineer, and which are hereby declared to be necessary 'in supplying gas to the owners of property abutting upon said street. - Adopted this 16th., day of April 1918.
