Knoblock of pole in front of. window and guy wire at residence No. 121 St. Paul Place. as follows:- This is a Rome Tel. Company pole. Frith -nothing on the pole but a guy wire. This guy pole should be a small pole placed on tlae d1ild-ing line to the west of this property and a small guy wire. The Board ordered th this company be notified to remove this pole. The following c ommun icat ion requesting permission to move poles, received, also pole and wire inspector's report filed with same as follows: - South Bend, Indiana. ° February 28th.,1918. The Honorble Board of Public Works, .South Bend, Indiana. _ Gent lgmen: - �/ In connection with our construction work bn this City our plans, of which you have a copy , show the poles on Portage Avenue from Navarre Street to Angella Ave.,. to be removed; we made the necessary changes in our lines to permit this removal byt find the City has a fire alarm or police circuit on these poles; the Street Railway people are using a number of these poles whic-h they probably will purchase but your wires are on sixteen of them that the Street Railway people do not have any contacts on and we would like to remove these poles within the next two weeks, if it is possible for you to remove your wires. Telephone Poles which the Street Car Co. has no connections on except one pole at the corner Of Vassar Ave. This one pole the city will reset and use; temporarily until later when this one pole will be removed°by the City Electrical department and the pole will then be returned to the C. U. Telephone Company. Board approved of Pole and wire inspector's report and the Clerk instructed to notify said Central Union Telephone Company. Renewal certificate for excavation bond of Bruno De Peape for the year 1918 was read and placed on file.. '/ ,Financial reports of the Building Department and Electrieial department filed by the Commissioner Commissioner and City Electrician for the month of February 1918. Same read and placed on file. City Cemetery sexton filed f inane ial report for the City Cemetery for the month of February 1918. Same read and approved by the Beard and the Clerk was instructed to notify Cemetery Sexton het collection of the outstanding accounts to February 28th.,1918 and render an itemized report of this at meeting to be held Tuesday March 12th.,1918 at 10:00 A.M. City Engineer F. J. March 2,1918. Board of Public forks., South Bend, Indiana.: Gent 1 emen: - Z-- We recently received a letter from you asking us if there was any new underground'work we Might have on E. Jefferson Blvd. between' Michigan Street and the Jefferson' St. Bridge, as, you intend to pave it this summer. In this connection we would like to-knbw whether you contemplate extending the 5-light posts in this direction, and would ask you to ad vise us so that we can make propek preparations before the pavement is put in. Perkins, met with the Board and presented the following notice tin owners of signs , which was approved by the Board and Commissioner. instructed to advertise same. i NOTICE TO OWNERS OF SIGNS. Notice is hereby given that Section #109 of Ordinance #1879 adopted March 12th. ,191'7, of the' C ity of South Bend, Indiana., provides that all existing signs and billboards whose length, construction or location does not comply with the provisions therein contained, shall after January lat., 1918_ be made to comply with the Ordinance or be removed entirely. • All of said signs etc., are now unlawful ,structuses, and notice is hereby given to the owners thereof to comply with the law by April 15th., 1918. The Honorable Board of Public Works, South Bend, Ind iana. ' Gentlemen: - At the time of the hearing on the assessment roll of the Fox Street pipe sewer, from Miami Street to Leer Street, the Controller was instructed to retain 100.00 from the amount due the contractor Bruno De Peape, ufltil some minor details in the construction of the sewer had been remedied. v Mr. De Peape has taken care of this matter, and I therefore recommend that the Board of Public Works instruct the Controller to•pay him the money still due him. Eng in ear. v The Board oddered that a special session of the Board be held Thursday March nth. ,1918 at 10: 00 A.M. to take up the matter of the washing out of the ` f irst ' ' .alley north of Fox Street between St. Joseph Street and Carroll Street, caused by some parties diverting Bowman Creek. Board instructed Clerk'to notify the National Lumber Company, Mr. J. W. Paxton property owner, also Chief of Police Kline, requested to notify all property owners bordering on said alley to be present .at said session. Clerk instructed to request City Attorney to be present at -said session. The matter of transportation for the City Engineer Ins: -his work in the Eng ineer 3.ng department was discussed by the Board and it was unanimously agreed by the Board that if Mr. F. J. Anderson City Engineer would`-furhish: his car, ---that, ` the Board would allow Thirty ($30-OO)Dollare per mouth foriusb--of same.
