Board met in regular session at 10:00 A.M. All members present.
Mr. Staples of the Standard Oil Company appeared before the s
Board in regard to selling Semd c Liquid Gloss for use in the City Hall. The Board
ordered one half (j) barred of same at price .quoted of $.65.6 per gallon.
/ Mr. L. H. Webster appeared before the Board and requested an
extension of time on the High Street and Ewing Avenue Trunk sewer system. The'
Board unanimously granted an extension of time to complete said sewer system`
until June lst.,1918.
The following communication was received from Frederick J.
Anderson, Chairman of the Examining .Board for positions in the Building Department.

Communication received from Frederick J. Anderson, Chairman of the
Board of Examiners certifying a list of eligibles for appointments in regard to
Building Commissioner and assistants, and the Board unanimously select the follow*
persons from said list.l
C. A. Perkins, Commissioner of Buildings, Wallace D. Teeple, Assistant
Commissioner, C. C. Taylor, inspector and Charles E. Starr for City Electrician.
-The office of assistant City Electrician to remain open until Tuesday January 22nd
1918. at 10:00 A.M. Clerk instructed to notify parties appointed by letter, and
to - tot fy Chas. E. Starr to report for duty at once.

for secretary, also would ask for a typewriter abd desk.

In regard to the above communication received by the Board from Mayor
F. R. Carson requesting employment of a clerk, and in as much as the Board needed
to employ additional clerical assistance in the Water Department, it was decided
to employ Miss Clara Seiler as secretary to the Mayor at a salary of $65.O0 per
month, the same to be paid out of the water works fund , with additional duties,
as all extra --work in the water works department when not amp toyed th business.

Bill for the amount of $13.25 submitted to the City for payment
by Miss J. Morley, for the cleaning of sewer at 411 W. Wayne and referred to the
Board by the Street Commissioner, was ant allowed by Board.

bids for typewriters for the Controllers office and Mayors off ice at 9. 00 A.M.
Wednesday January 16th.,1918, at the office of the Board.
Chief of Police Kline appeared before the Board and requested that
.drinking fountains and gash bowls be placed in the cell rooms in the Police station.
The Board after Invest igat ing same ordered that the plumber be notified to install the
necessary plumbing �'or same. ,-Also that the South Bend Spring Wags Company be notified
to made necessary repairs on the cills.
By unanimous consent of the Board Edward Moritz River Park was
reappointed to the position of Caretaker- of River Park gas lighter.
By unanimous consent E. N. Kaser -yeas rreappo sited -to the _position
of clerk in the Building Department.
Communitat ion received ...from Sam. W. Pickering Manager of the Oliver
Theatre in regard to way removing of snow was handling by the''Street department from
in front of theatre. Same read and placed on file.
The Board ordered that the telephones be changed from the former
Mayor and Chief of Police residences to the present Mayor and Chief of Police residence
according to ordinance. -
