All of the above bids were referred to the City Civil Engineer for tabu-
lation to be reported on at 7:45 P.M. this 13th. day of November 1917.
Attorney Wm. A. McInerny representing the White Construction Company
appeared before the Board in regard to decision on mortar cushion under street
car tacks on Eddy Street and Mishawaka Avenue from Jefferson Blvd. to Nineteenth
Street . The Board decided to defer decision on said matter until Wednesday
November 14th.,1917 at 5:00 P.U. Said decision held UD until this date to give
Attorney H. A. Wair, Counsel for the Chicago, South Bend & Northern Indiana ,ty.
Company , a chance to give this matter consideration.
Mr. Joseph Grunwald met with the Board and discussed the matter of
assessment for •wa.ter taps •on ,Dubail °Avenue. The Board inform him that this matter
would be taken up at Water Works session to be held Wednesday November 14th.,1917
at 10: 00 A.M.

power house, and to make this aLvailtble it is necessary to heve a siNitch track to the
0107►er house as indeiented on blu- print of Fovember 7th., 1917 hereto attached. The
proposed switch is indicated by dotted ^rhite lines.
It is quite important that you favor us with nn ^a.rly permit for this track
across west Se,r+n! a Str^-t, s.s w- are about reedy to utilize our n--+ power house. We
want to arrange to out this tr_ a.ek across SR•M-n1- Stre^t this coming Sunday so ss to
interfere with traffic as little as possible.

in the South Bend: Daily Tribune, stating that this Board will give,a hearing on
the amount of such assessments at its office in the City Hall on the 27th.-day of
November 1917 at 7: 45 P.M.
Resolved.further,tha t the entire work under the above contract be
accepted and approved and the final estimats allowed. Notice of this resolution
shall be, published on the *16th. day of November 1917 and on the 23rd. day of
November 1917, stating that this Board will give a hearing on the acceptance of

filed October 30th. ,1917 is benef itted in the amount of assessments as shown on said
rolls, and the Board further find.that the assessment rolls filed October 30th.,1917
snd the final estimate allowed octgber'30th.91917 should be an4 the -same are hereby in
all things ratified, confirmed and approved.
Healing had on assessment roll and final estimate for "pavement on alley
north of Washington Avenue from Taylor Street to William Street, under Improvement
Resolution No. 520 In the City of South Bend, Indian%.
In the above matter no romenstraters appeared and no.written remonstrance
was filed. The Board therefore find that the property assessed in said rolls filed
6oteber 23rd.1917 is boneffited in he amount of assessments as shown on said rolls,
and the Board further find that the assessment rolls filed October 23rd.1917 and the final
estimate allowed October 23rd.1917 should be and the°same are hereby in all things,
ratified, c onf irmed and approved.
-Ur. Gatos. Platt appeared before the Board in regard to petition
filed previous for a wipe sewer on Dayton Street. jhe Board adopted resolution on
the same.

City Street Commissioner met with the Beard and discussed the preposgtion�Mayor Mellettee
✓ of Anderson, Indiana had to offer for the purchase of garbage from This City for a
use at a piggery. The Board decided to take this matter under consideration . Mr. D.
C . Layton instructed to make a trip of investigation in d if f ernet cities in regard to
thQ selling of garbage.
Guarantee bond of the Western Construction Company for five years filed
✓ on Asphalt pavement on kilten Avenue was approved by the Board,
Petition for light at the corner of Baney Avenue and Rush Street and
,.--one at Ewing Avenue was filed.
Building Commissioner filed financial report for the month of October
1917. Same read and placed on file.
Guarantee bond for the sum of 'wo hundred and seventy dollars for
v ,five year guarantee on Miami Street pavement from Fox Street.to Ewin6 Avenue was
approved by the Board.
Pole and wire inspector reported as follows on complaints about poles.
In regard to complaint -about pole at rear of 326 and 326 No. Lafayette
Street, this pole is a South Bend Home lel. Company pole and is now standing on the property
place, this pole was ordered placed there when the alley was paved. +his pole can be
reset to the north about 60 feet at the rear of a house -on kar ton Street.
Board approved of said report.
In regard to guy pole in alley side of 121 St. Paul Place. ,his is a
South Bend Bane telephone Company pole and can be removed and a guy placed in the ground.
Board approved of said report.

LOCAL SEWER IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 563.
Resolved, by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, County
Of St. Joseph , State of Indiana, That the construction of a local sewer, intended
and adapted only for local use by the property holders ;ftiose property abuts thereon
and not intended or adapted for receiving sewerage from eallateral, drains, be and '
the same is, hereby ordered in and along Dayton Street from karine Street to the
first alley west of Leer Street as follows,towit;
Beginning at the intersection of
the center line of Marine Street and Dayton Street thence.east along the center
line of Dayton Street to the First alley west of Leer -Street with a 10 inch
vitrified pipe newer. Together with the necessary manholes, steran waster inlets,
storm water pipe, flush tank and.house connections to the curb line along the line
of said improvement; All as is more particularly shown, and all in accordance with
the profiles, plans, detail drawings and spef is iat ions on file in ' the Offtb* of
the Department" of`,Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana, and said senor,
with all its appurtenances shall be constructed in accordance with the profile
and speficiatieni now on file in the office of the Department of Pula -lie Works
of said City. ;he cast of said improvement shall be spper�16n*ddagainst and paid
by'the�preperty holders whose property abuts thereon, and upon the City of South
Bend if the City. is benefitted by said improvement, all acco.rd.ing to the method and
manner provided for in Act of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, entitld
" An Act Concerning Municipal Corporations," approved Uareh 691905. Assessments,
if deferred, are to be paid in ten equal annual in.sti,llments, " with interest at the
rate of Six per cent per annum. A bond or bonds shall be issued to the contractor
in payment for such work, unless the property owners pay.said assessments before
said bond or bonds are issued. Under no circumstances shall the City of South
Bend be or be held responsible for any sun or sums due from said property owner or
owners for said work, or for the elleetien of same, or for the payment' of any bond
or bonds, certificate or certificates, issued to said contractor in payment for sula
such work, ex ;Opt for such moneyes as shall have been actually received by the
City from the assessments for such improvement, or such moneys as said City is by t
said above entitled Aet required to pay . All proceedings had, and work done
in the making of said improvement, assessment of property, collections of assess-
ments and issuance of 'ponds therefor, , shall be as provided for - in said above
entitled Act.
