Board met in regulate session at Tx 10:00 A.M. All members present.
The following ' b ids were received by the Board for the printing of
New Building Codes and leaflets of changes in codes as follows:

the Water Dept% testing hydrants. Same read and 'refe.red to the Water 6epartment.
Communication received from -Harvey S. Cover in regard to improvements
on Chippewa Avenue. Same read and placed on file.
The Board of Public Safety met with the' Board and took up the matter
of more room for the Bet[ective'Dept.. This matter to be- tsken up with the City Controller
in regard to funds for same. .
Also matter of testing of fire hydrarfts taken up with with Board
/and Mr. J.. W. .Toyne Supt. of City Water •Works was present dnd discussed this matter.

Remonstrance filed against pavement improvement on n Ist. alley west
of Michigan Street from Madison Street to Marion Street.

The following notice was received from the City Controller.
By order of the auditdrs of the State Board of accounts no warrants far -
traveling expenses of members of Boards or city employees will hereafter be drawn by the
`City Controller useless accompanied by a statement giving date of minutes containing
authorization for such expenditure and ind icat ing the purpose or necessity for such trip.
Vouchers must also be accompanied by receipts for each item or expenditure incurred,
except railroad fare, and no item will be allowed unless accompanied by such receipt.
Other kinds of incidentals expenditures such, for instance, as purcjhaase
of street car t-ickets or any expense of employees, authorized by Boards must be accom-
panied by receipts or other definite evidence of the expenditure

Hearing given on Vacation Resolution No. 34 for the Vac at ion of
Scott -Street from alley north of Leon Court to poi#t 30 feet north of S.S.B& S. Ry.
Co.and Leon Court from Scott 'Street to alley west of Scott Street and alley north of
Leon Court from Sett Street to alley west of Scott Street, Ix the City of Southo0
of South Bend, Indiana.
In the above matter remonstrators appeared but no written remok-
strance was filed, the Board therefore sustain all former action taken and declare the
above described_property,in all things .vacated and this resolution in all ;things rati4-
f ied, confirmed and approved.
Resolved further that the City Engineer be instructed to prepare a
roll showing awards of damages and assessments of benefits to all parties and pro-
perties interested in the above matter.
.Deferred hearing had on gravel pavement, curb and walk on Dubail
Avenues from Leer Street to liar ine Street, under ` Improvement Resolution Ni. 467. In the
City of South Bend, Indiana.
Upon said hearing no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrance
was. f iled and the Board being fully advised in the premises, decides that the benefits
to property liable to be 'assessed for said improvements are equal to the estimated Most
of the same, as reported by the City Civil Engineer, and thereupon takes f hRal ;act ion
on said resolution as or ig inaly adopted, and the same is hereby in all things, ratified,
c onf irmed and approved.
Resolved further, that notices be published on the 21st. day of
March 1917 and on the 28th. day of March 1917 in a newspaper of general circulation
in said City, stating that this Board will receive bids for the construction of said
improvements tip to 10:00 A.Y. on the loth. day of April 1917. The Board reserves the
right to reject any and all bids.
Hearing given on roll showing awards of damages and assessments of
vbenef its ( same equal) in the matter of Vacation Resolution No. 32 for the Vacation of
alley north of Madison Street from Lafayette Street to first alley west of Lafayette
Street, in the City of South Bend, Indiana.
No remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrance was filed. The
Board therefore declare the above roll filed February 6th.,1917 in all things
ratified, c onf irmed and approved and the proceedings closed;
Tabulation of bids received at 10:00 A.M. 'this 13th. day of March 1917
filed by the Building Commissioner. The Board ordered that the same be held up for
dese is iex until Tuesday Larch 20th. ,1917 at 10:00 A. M.
Dr, E. J. Lent President of the Park Board appeared before the
Board &Ad requested that Boulevard lights be placed on Carty Blvd, in this City.
She Board took this matter under advisement kndtto take the same up with the Finance
Department,
Attorney Vitus Jones, representing the Harter Realty Company
appeared before the Board and presented a petition in regard to the intersections at
V Harter Heights. The said petition is as follows:

Your petitioners further represent that they will within a few months
erect a number of homes and residences in the said addi'i ion; and further that a,
n,imber of other citizens have purchased or contracted to purchase lots in the said
Addition for the purpose of erecting dwellings;. and that a great number of dwell-
ings will be erected in the said addition within the next year.
Your petitioners would further represent that the number 0 dwell-
ings erected and the development of the said Addition will depend upon the paving
of the Streets And the building of sidewalks in the said Addition.
The undersigned petitionera would further represent and agree that
they will pay the entire cost of the sidewalks and that they will contribute to the
City of South Bend one tenth or Ten per cent of the cast of the Street inter-
section, Lenn J. Oar*, Harter Realty CO. H. P. Harter, R. C. Shanklin, F. C. Re
Reimeeld, Dr. A. Cleland, G. 0. Thurm, W. A. Messick.
The above -was read and placed on file. The Board decided to take
this matter up with the Finance Department before deciding on same.
The Matter of vacation a strip of land taken for the Widening of
Eddy Street from Jefferson Blvd. to Grand Trunk Ry. Company right of way on
Eddy Street was dicussed by the Board.- No decision reached on same.
