Phase UU will construct the 19 foot pavement cross-section of the east half of Bendix Drive. The project is to continue maintaining one-way southbound traffic by utilizing the newly constructed west half of the roadway. Northbound traffic will continue to use the posted detour route. VVeanticipate the multi -use path will be constructed during this phase, as well as final signaUzationupgrades and final pavement markings and signage. The contractor will need to maintain local access as necessary, and within the posted detour route throughout construction. Full - depth PCCP patching of existing concrete pavement, new asphalt, new concrete pavement, and continuous curb and gutter repairs and multiple signal upgrades were also included inthe project. The final project cost under -ran the original bid by as well as through partnering efforts between UNITED, the designer, Indianapolis DPW, and INDOT. After working directly with the INDOT Project Manager and Area Engineer, the savings were able to be utilized to provide additional sidewalk improvements and ADA access from E. 30th Street to E. 36th Street/Decamp through a joint effort between UNITED, DPW, and IDEM. Work was completed under traffic and in coordination with Indianapolis Metro Bus schedules. The project extends from Company Drive toShelbyville Road in Marion County (164 miles). It included the widening of the existing roadway to a five -lane road with curb and gutter, enclosed drainage, and pedestrian facilities, The project also included replacement ofan existing three -span bridge structure over Little Buck Creek. The rehabilitation included shifting the existing special consideration to be given to the treatment o? the roadway crown and resurfacing. Right-of-way limits were set on a parcel -by -parcel basis to minimize the right-of-way costs and acquisitions. The project included the acquisition of approximately 20 parcels of commercial, residential, and business development properties. The bridge, roundabout, and mainline pavement were constructed and open to traffic injust under eight mmnths, thanks to an acceleration initiative implemented bythe Town. Other project challenges included constructing the south end of the project under tm0ic, and maintaining access to residents, multiple businesses. and Avon Schools during construction throughout the project limits. Portions of the projects were coordinated with Avon Schools to be constructed during spring, summer, and fall breaks as to not disrupt bus schedules o/ after - school activities.
