STATEMENT ON MAYOR'S NAVY RESERVE DUTY
As part of his regular service in the United States Navy Reserve, Mayor Pete Buttigieg
spends one weekend per month on duty and is obligated to serve one twelve-day period
of duty once a year. This year,his orders are in place from June 4 to June 15. He will be
stationed at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. During his service,he will remain in regular, frequent
contact with his office and City officials. Pursuant to Indiana Code and continuing the
authority of previous mayors,he will notify the president of the South Bend Common
Council today that he will designate a City executive to have signing authority during his
time of service. His designee during this period will be Chief of Staff Mike Schmuhl.
Mayor Buttigieg stated: "I remain committed to and engaged with the people and
employees of the City of South Bend throughout my service to the United States
military."
