A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AWARDING JOHN SCHALLIOL, FORMER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE SOUTH BEND REGIONAL AIRPORT WITH A "2012 SOUTH BEND CITIZEN AWARD" 6)6" the South Bend Common Council notes that the vibrancy of our city is reflected by the residents who selflessly contribute to the betterment of our community; and 6* the Common Council is proud to recognize that former Executive Director of the South Bend Regional Airport, John Schalliol, retired on February 29, 2012; and G� the Council notes that Mr. Schalliol began his career in 1977 as an airport engineer and was promoted to be the airport's Executive Director in 1981; and G " when Mr. Schalliol started working at the airport, he worked in a building built in 1949 located on airport property of just 700 acres which has grown from old grass runways to over 2,200 acres; which provides services for four (4) air carriers with non -stop flights to ten (10) cities, namely Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Las Vegas, Phoenix -Mesa, Minneapolis, Orlando /Sanford, and Tampa Bay /St. Petersburg which impacts South Bend and the surrounding communities in annual economic impact in excess of $433.7 million. On behalf of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council is pleased to publicly present to JOHN SCHALLIOL, former Executive Director of the South Bend Regional Airport with a "2012 SOUTH BEND CITIZEN AWARD ". Section II. The Common Council thanks John for his 35 years of dedicated service to the airport, our community and the aviation industry; and wishes him, his wife, Gale and their sons Bill and Charley the very best in the years ahead.
