Board met in regular session at 11:20 A.M. Mr. E. M. Morris absent.
Mr, A. H. Rice acting presidenttr
Mr. Gordon W.Long with a number -of property owners on Dale Avenue
appeared before the Board and objected to -assessment on pipe sewer on -Dale Avenue.
.As the assessment roll for said sewer was set for hearing January 23rd.1917
and all property owners.notified to appear, and said assessment roll was modi-
Pied at :sald hearing; and confirmed! The Board notified said property owners
present that .ne further action could be ,taken..
The Board -ordered. the Clerk to advertise for thirty thousand feet
Of white oak ..lumber to be used , in ._street repair. for the exsuixg year. Bids for
same to ,be received February 27th..,1917 at .10:00 A.M.

Communication received from A. R. Erskine in regard to improvement
of EwingAvenue west from Miami Street. Same read and placed on file.
Clerk instructed to notify.Mr. A. R. Erskine, that this improve-
ment was set ever for bids April lst.,1917.

Dear Sirs: -
The assessment roll for th paving 'of Michigan Street from South St.
to La Salle Ave. includes two items for which there were no bids in the original
contract with the 1Gstern Canstruction Company.* These two items are the curb
and gutter inlets which were installed at the northeast dad the northwest corner
of Michigan At. and Washington Ave. in place of the regular flat inlets, aid the
cement walk repair work, which consisted of extending the walk '>out to the new
curb line, due to the great irregularity in the old curb line.
The ptteo of the curb and gutter inlets is $ 8.50 each, and the price
for' extending the sidewllk to the back of the new curb is 12 cents a lineal foot.

Hearing had on assessment roll and f inal estimate for sidewalks and curbs
on Various Street in t°he City under Improvement Resolution No. 4 '22.°
J In the above matter no remonstrators appeared and no written `remonstrance
was filed. The Board therefore find that the property assessed in said roll filed
January 16th. ,1917 is benef itted in the amount of assessments a`s shown on said rolls, and
the Board further find that the assessment roll filed January 16th. ,1917 and the final
estimate allowed January 16th. ,1917 should be and ,the same are hereby in a.11 things
rat if ied, c onf irmed and approved. ,
The Board ordered that the following communication be sent to the New York VCentral
Railway: Company.

Our City Engineer and Street Commissioner after careful investigation
report that the Portage Avenue viaduct is in a dangerous c oud it ion. Needs entire
new stringers and replanking0 Other timbers of the viaduct are in good condition.
Wou l request same be taken care `of as soon as possible to avoid accidents..
C ounc ilman Seifert appeared before the Board and read c ommunicat ions from
the River Park C iv is Associations in 'regard to water ma iris on Eighth Street, also
c ommun. icat ion from East side Improvement Club in regard t°o pol icebooth at corner
of Emerick St. and La Salle.Avenue and putting wires underground on streets on east side.
The Board informed Mr. Seifert that the water mains on Eighth Street would be taken
care - of in spring as earllft as possible. No action taken on other matter.
Permission granted the Central Union Telephone Company to place poles
and anchors on va ious streets in the City, also permission toiestdll underground
conduit and to build two manholes.

In regard to the bid of HobAan and Reach for the paving of Portaged Court
I have taken the matter up with Messrs. Chas. E. Smith, Samuel Perley and I. D.
Van Gorder, the interested property owners along the Court, and all stated that they
would not object if the Board 'awarded the contract at tb.e pfi•ices. bid by Hoban. & Roach.
