Board of Public Works,
South Bend, Indiana.
Gentlemen: -
In reviewing the service connections on Michigan Street thenother day, I
discovered, very much to my surprise, that through some misunderstanding there have been
two or three services from steam piping omitted. The same came about through misunder-
,standing on the part of some of our employees, but, of course, was the fault of our
Company and I appreciate very mush your having let us dig up the concrete to make
services on the east side of the street near the middle of the block. between Hefferson
and Wayne Streets.
As near as we can deflect, with these services we will be in a position to
serve -everyone along the street except about 200 feet immediately south of the
Auditorium, and on the same side of the street.
We have no contract for this business and it is not probable that we will
get one, but I feel that for the ultimate good of the street it would be wise for us to
put in this service in at the present time.
Mr. Roberts who is looking after the construction work, advises me that
he can clean this job up by Sunday morning, In order to do so, however, it will be
necessary for him to work at night, which he says he can arrange to do. This would entail
Itigging a trench of about 30.feet in length across the exisiting concrete, and it does
seem to me that it would be more adv iseable to dig this trench at the present time .that,
several years hence.
I regret very much thai this ommission was made, b ut it was simply one
of those errors that sometimes occur without any particular reason$.
Yours truly,
ST . JOSEPH Hr AT UG COMPANY
