Pipe sewers on Rush, Milton, Columbia, Carroll Streets, Benton Court and
St. Josenh, Street from St. Joseph Street. to Calvert St.
Pipe sewer on Tecumseh Avenue from Pokagon Street to North line of lot
375 Hillcrest Add.
Sidewalk, grade and comb nat ion curb and gutter on 'Washington Avenue
from Sunnys ide Ave. to Jacob Street.
Sidewalk on ,west side of Kemble Avenue from Oliver St. to Ewing Avenue.
Bids that were filed by the Western Construction Company and the W. B_
Brady Construction Company for., the resurfacing of La Porte Avenue from Washington Avenue to
north line of Linden Avenue were withdrawn by the contractors, and all action on said
resolution No. 463 for the resurfacing oa La Porte Avnue from Washington Avenue to north
line of Linden Avenue 13 hereby rescinded by the unanimous consent of the Board, and a
new resolution ordered.
Mr. TT. B. Brady of W. B. Brady Construction Company appeared before the
Board add asked for an extension of time on contract for pavement or. Eddy Street and
Mishawaka Avenue from Jefferson Blvd. to NinetzE�,nth Street .

Northern Indiana Ry. Company appeared before the Board and filed remonstrance.
The Board after due consideration decided to defer this hearing from'this_ date to September

Hearing had on Improvement Resolution No. 470 for pipe sewer on
Chestnut Stre,,t from Jefferson Blvd. to Lake Shoz•e and Michigan`Southern Ry. Co.
In the City of South Bend, Indiana.
Upon said 'nearing remonstrators appeared but no wrftter, remonstrance
lva.s filed. And the Board being fully advised in the matter decided. to defer
all action on the same until Tuesday April lst.,1917. Clerk instructed to
send out cards in time for hearing.
01 Clerk instructed to notifiy L. H. Vander Karr to clean -'sand and dirt
off of Main Street.
The Board instructed clerk to referr'communication about gas poles
or, Mishawaka Avenue River Park to the City Attorney for a rexort as to who -%ra.s to
stand the expense for moving the same.

& Ccussens for $4,781.34
Contract for pipe sewer on Tecumseh Avenue from Pokagon St. to No.

City Engineer instructed to take u-o matter of the C hicago, South Bend
Northern Indiana Ry. Company and the South Bend Home Telehone Company using the

Engineer filed assessment roll and final estimate for water con-
nections on Jaquith Court fron Prairie Avenue to Chapin Street, under Improvement
Resolution No. 441. In the City of South Bend, Indiana.
Resolved, that notices as to the a,mounts'of assessments as required
by statute be published on the 18th. day of September 1966 and on the 25th.
day of September 1916 in the South Bend Daily Tribune, stating that this: Board will
give a hearing or, the amount of such assessmatit s at its office in the City Hall

pavement on alley rest of Lafayette Street from La Salle Avenue to Colfax Avenue, under
Improvement Resolution No. 431 . In the City of South Bend, Indiana.
Resolved, that nooices as to the amounts of assessments be'nublished
for six consecutive days in the South Bend Daily Tribune, c ommenc ing on the_ 16th.
day of Senterriber 1916 stating that this Board will give a: hearing on the amount of such
assessments at its office in the City Hall or. the 26th. day of September 1916 at 7:45 P.M.
Resolved further, that the entire work under the above` contract be
accepted and approved and the final estimate thereon allowed. Notice of this resolution
shall be published on the 18th. day of September 1Q16 in the South Bend Daily Tribune

The City Engineer submitted the list of property owners in the matter of
the appropriation of certain property under condemnation Resolution No. 44 for the
Opening of an Alley between Notre Dame Avenue and St. Peter Street from Corby Street to
Lot 23 in S or in's 2nd . Addition, In the City of South Bend, Indiana as per resolution
on Page 161 of thi7 Record. Wtjich list includes the names of the owners and holders
of property and of interests therein sought to>be taken or beneficially or injuriously
affected, and the description of the several pieces of uzoperty which is affected by the
s �, id appropriation pr oc �d ings .
Thereupon the Board proceeded to award the damages sustained and to
assess the benefits; accruing to each piece of property upon. said list.
It was thereupon, upon motion duly made and seconded and unanimously
adopted, resolved that said list, together with the amounts of benefits and damages and net
benefits and ntt damages therein set forth as to the several parcels of land be adopted
and that the respective amour_t of benefits contained in :-,.,)id list be and are hereby assessed
against the several tracts of land as specifically set forth in said list, and that the
respect ,ve amounts of damages contained in the said list -be and are hereby awarded to the
several tracts of land a:7 specifically set forth in said list, and that the net benefits
or net damages, as the case may be as to the respective tracts of land, contained in said
list are hereby awarded or assessed, as the ease may be as to the said several tracts
of land. The Board hereby further sets off the benefits and damages: each aLlinst
the other where hoth benefits and damages are assessed, tkx the same piece of property or
tract of lgnd or interest, and hereby fixes said respective net benefits as to the amounts
that shall be paid by the respective owners as benefits, and further hereby fixes the
respective net damages as to the several tracts as the amount that shall be paid to the
owners of the .respective tracts as damages.
Thereupon, upon motion dull* made and seconded and unanimously adopted
the 7th. day of November 1016 at 7:45 P.M. was fixed as the day on which this
Board will receive or hear remonstrances from persons with* regard to the amount of their
respective awards or assessments, and the Clerk of this Board was instructed to prepare
and cause to be duly and legally given, notices to the owners of each parcel of property,
sho-ing the amount of the assessments or award, with a description of the property affected,
and the date of said hearing.
Engineer filed assessment roll and final estimate of. award of damages
and assessments of benefits, under Vacation Resolution No. 30 for Vacation of Street and
Alleys in the Shover Longley Addition. In the City of South. Bend, Indiana.
The Board h^s ordered that notices of such awards of damages and assess-
ments gf benefits be served according to law, and that a hearing be given on the loth.
day of October, 1916 at 7:45 P.M. at the office of the Board in the City Hall for the
purpose of hearing remonstrators and receiving remonstrances from any person or persons
interested in said matter.
Check for $22.00 received from Stephenson Underwear Mills for exnense
ofprinting, etc for Vacation of Oft, of Ginz' Avenue from Colfax Avenue to Washington Ave.
The Board ordered the same turned over the City Controller with Miscellneous receipts.
Permission granted the Central Union Tele -hone Comna:rjy to set
poles and ahchors Samcle Street, Fellows and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Dears Sirs:--
I can offer no objections to the proposed side-track or spur
v which Mr. Campbell wishesto run into his building, as there will be no cars left
standing t:o dbstruct the alley or Garst Street.

The following communication from Marvin Campbell was approved by' the Bandd
granting the same permission t_lo run spur.

Gentlemen: -

'Y'our petitionerx Marvin Campbell resectfuily requests permission from
your Board to allow the Vandalia Railroad Company to run a spur from their track
across the alley south of Garst Street and across Garst Street, so as to place
a car upon his property now occupied by the Kendallville Mfg. Company and which
is located upon the north side of Garst Street end adjoining the Vandalia Railroad.
The purpose being that provision will be made within the building,
or enough( of the building removed, so th,t the car when at rest will be wholly.
upon the petiioners property, The proposed spur isoutlined in the bluE print
hereto attached made by the Vandalia Railroad Company and to it is attached a letter
from the ^ivision Engineer of the Vandalia to its agent at South Bend, Mr. S. �.�.
Rosenberger. The probabilities are that wive will elect to run as shown by their
red line but we will be glad ibf permission t•o run uon either the red line or
the yellow line, as we may finally decide.
Immediate action will be greatly appreciated as it is the desire to
let contracts based somewhat upon the fact that we have this permission to ru n this
spur,

Ewing Avenue under improvement resolution. No. 458. signed by L. H. Webster,
approved by the Board.
Excavation bond of Studebaker Corporation a proved by the Board.
Petition requesting th&t the light on Augustine St. and Adams St.
be moved north to Vassar Avenue and a new light placed on Lincoln Way West and
Adams St. San-.e placed on file.
Pole and wire inspector reported that pole on E. Madison Street
at corner of alley between Emeri.k St. and Hill St.is in the proper place a.nd. should
fiot be ordered moved, as the Central Union Telephone Company -*sere granted perraiasion
to place a line of new poles on the east side of the first a.119y irest of Hill Street
so as to remove the roles no.,• standing on Hill Street.
