Board met in regular session at 10:00 A.M. All members. present.
petition received from Georges Cutter Coo in regard to a Tight being placed
at the crossing of the Brand Trunk Ry. ,and Notre -Dame Avenue. The same placed on
file, until investigated.
Excavation bond; _of the Grand Truk Western Ry. Co. signed and approved.

Continuation certificate on Bond No. 251050-14 1.#20099 -in the 'sum of
Twenty Five Thousand and No.--100 ("9000.00) Dollars on `behalf of Indiana & Michigan
v Electric Company in favor of Municipal City of South Bend, Indians, for the period begin
ping the 16th . day of December 1915 and ending on the 16th. day of De eembe r 1915 and
ending can the 16tc . day of December 19169 subject to all the covenants and conditions
of said originAl bond heretofore issued, dating from the 16th. day of December 1913
The above certificate was approved by the Board.
Guarantee bond of the Western. Construction Co. as principal and the
London Lancashire Indemnity Company of America as surety for pavement (Asphalt)
f on Allen Street from Oak Street to Van Buren Street for the sum of One Thousand
two hundred and sixty six Dollars was approved by the Board.
The follovt ng deed was approved by the Board and Olerk ordered to put same on record.

sell, convey and forever QUIT CLAIM to City of South Bend of St. Joseph County, in
the State of Indiana, its heirs and assigns in consideration of One _Dollar (1.00)
the -following Real estate, in St. Joseph County;-, in the State of Indiana,, to —wit: —
Beginning thirty—five and one half (35-1/2) feet south of the north
west corner of lot .sev..en. ty-six (76) in the second Plat of Dag Park; thence south
ten (10).;feet; thence eastn one hundred and twenty (120) feet; thence north ten (10)
feet; thencewest one hundred and twenty (120) feet to the place of beginning;
Also beginning thirty five and one half (35-1/2) feet north of the south-
-east corner of lot seventy seven (77) in the Second Plat of Oak Park; thence west one
hundred and ten (l1k0) feet; thence south thirty five and one half (35-1/2) feet;
thence west ten (10) feet; thence north forty five end one half (45-1/2) feet; thence
east one hundred and twenty. (120) feet; thence saath ten (10) feet to theplace of

The grantors hereby convey all of their equity in the above described
land to the City to be used for alley purposes.

STREET OR ALLEY IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION'NO* 419.
BE, IT RESOLVED BY T11E BOARD OF PUBLIC WOFT S OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, ST. JO SEPH
COUNTY,S'T'ATE OF INIJ ANA, that it is desired and deemed necessary to improve Pokagon Street
from Tecumseh Street to the right of way of the Michigan Central Railroad Co,.
By grading said street from property line to property line and, paving the road—
way fifteen (15) f eeton each side of the center line with" gravel three (3) - inches in depth.
All as shown on the plans and in accordance with the profiles detail drawings and speci—
fications on file in the office of the Depart: ent of Public Works of the City of South Bend,
Indiana.
The cost of the improvement herein provided for, except street and alley inter-
sections, shall be paid by special assessment to be levied upon theaptoperty specially bene—
fitted, to the amount that the same may be legally assessed therefor, in accordance *ith an
Act of the general Assembly of the State of Indiana, entitled " An Act Concerning Municipal
Corporations.," approved March 6,1905, and in accordance with and pursuant to the _protisions
of all amendatory and supplemental thereto.

The cost of all street and alley intersections, inoluding one—half of the
width of the improvement opposite street and alleys which run into, but do not cross said
roadway herein proposed to be improved and that portion of such street or alley abutting
upon property belonging to said City, or upon property not subject to such assessments, shall
be paid by the City in cash out of its general fund, if able to do so, or.from a -fund created
by a special assessment to be levied under the provilions of Section 109 of the above en-
titled Act.
Assessments of ten dollars and more against each lot, if deferred, are to
be paid in ten equal annual installments, with interest at the rate of Six per cent per annum.
A bond or bonds will be issued to the contractor to the amount of such deferred assess—
ments in pro ra.ta payment for such impmavement.
Under no cttcamstanees shall the City of South Bend be, or be held respons—
ible for any sort of sum due from said property owner or woners for said work ,, or for the
collection of the same, or for the payment of any bond or bonds, certificate or cert =
ficates, issued to said contractor in payment for such work, except for such moneys as shall
have actually been received by the City frog: the assessments for such improvement, or such
moneys as said City is by said entitled Act and amendments and supplements thereto required ti
pay. All proceedings had, and work done in the making of said improvement, assessment of
property, collection of assessments and issuance of bonds therefor, shall be as provided for
In said above entitled Act, and Acts amendatory thereof and supplemental thereto.
BE IT ETiRTHER RESOLVED, That the Board of Public Works fix the 21st.- day of
March,1916 at the hour of 7:45 P.Y. at the o fice of the Board of Public Wo4cs, of this
City, as the time and place for the public consideration of said proposed improvement,
at which said Board of Public Works v4ll hear all persons interested, or whose property is
liable to be assessed for said improvement , and vd ll decide whether the benefits to the pro—
perty liable to be assessed forIsaid improvement will equal the estimated cost thereof.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That notice of the
consideration be published and mailed in the manner provided
shall be published on the 26th. day of February 1916 and o
South Bend Daily Tribune.

Gentlemen:— The Board of Examiners having in charge the examination of candidates for the
position of Corun issioner of Buildings for the City of South Bend have completed their work
and herewith submit their results. Out of nine applications duly filed,eight completed the
full examination. One other candidate appeared for examination on first meeting a:ndthen
formally withdrew.We submit the following gradings of all candidates above 70%w C.A. Perkins
