The following communication received from South Bend Asphalt Roofing Co. in regard to the erection of Pro Slate Panel garages in the City. Same read and permission granted to sell garages herein described in following communications: - South Bend, Ind. July 21,1920. Hon. Board of Public Works. South Bend, Indiana. Gent lemen: - I am writing you in regard to the proslate panel garages which I have can hand and which your building commissioner Mr. ° Teeple refused to issue permit for until certain tests have been made. The test that he ask for is that the proof on the giirage sustain a weight of thirty founds per square foot, which he claims is according to the Building code. I have read the building code and there is no doubt in my mind but ghat that part of the code refers to Plat roofs. You know that sometimes flat roofs are subject to great weights from snow and water and often times different kinds of weights are put on flat roofs by Telephone Co etc., These pro -slate panel ga.reges have a gable roof well constructed, and the manufacturer guarantees that they will sustain a weight of thirty pounds per square foot or over. The writer finds these garages are being sold and erected without restrictions in Fort Wayne, Terre Haute, Chicago, Indianapolis, Peru, .Kokomo, Elkhart Michigan City etc., I am therefore requesting your Honorable Body to take this up with your Building' Comin.iss inners ° iiid if it be your pleasure, grant me a permit to sell and erect these garages.
