Mr. Gilbert A . Elliott, IWha irman.
Board of Pub 1 is Works,
South Bend, Indiana.,
Dear Mr. Elliott: -
In compliance with the request of your office to have .the Chamber
of Commerce Coliseum Committee make any suggestion to the Board concerning Matter
Of a $ ite for proposed coliseum, we beg to say that:
Our committee, Messrs. George Robertson, J. M. Stephenson and F.
A. Miller, met and I am instructed to say that because of the finane-iAl situation -
of the City and various other c and it ions, especially cost of materials and need for
hospital expansion, etc . , that it is our belief that the City of South Bend is not,
at the moment, prepared to make a dec is ion c oncerning a ddf inite s ite for a coliseum.
Therefore, this committee, being purely a co-operative body, feels that at the present
time no further steps should be taken in the matter.
Then, twos , there may be a City Plan put into effect, and we
believe final dec is ion -of such an important matter as a coliseum site should not be
hastily decided, but become part of such a plan.
We believe you will agree with us that this is the proper move
at the moment.
Cordially yours,,
• SOUTH BEND CHAMBER OF COMMEBEE
