MAYOR BUTTIGIEG,CITY CREWS PREPARE FOR MORE SNOW
SOUTH BENDIn anticipation of the second major snowfall of the year, Mayor Pete
Buttigieg's office held an interdepartmental meeting this morning to ensure that the city,
South Bend Community School Corporation, TRANSPO, local emergency personnel,
and other agencies are prepared for the storm.
"I am proud of the snow removal work that our departments performed at the beginning
of year,"Buttigieg said. "I am confident in their ability to clear major thoroughfares as
the snow starts coming down later today."
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued from Thursday, January 12, at 4:00 p.m. E.S.T.
to Friday, January 13 at 7:00 p.m. The projections of snowfall have ranged from 4-12
inches with high winds that could cause drifting.
"In addition to the neighborhoods throughout the city, we want to make sure the areas
around our schools and businesses are cleared and safe," Buttigieg said.
Buttigieg has been in regular communication with the Street Department to address the
lake-effect snow coming to South Bend. The mayor affirmed preparedness of snow-
removal crews and equipment needed for snow control efforts.
South Bend residents are advised to drive cautiously and be mindful of the conditions,
especially with decreased visibility and dropping temperatures tonight.
