ALL-AMERICA CITY QUILT TOUR STOPS IN SOUTH BEND
Mayor Pete Buttigieg will unveil South Bend's addition to quilt
South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg kicks off the all-American City Quilt Tour today for
South Bend at the Civil Rights Heritage Center. South Bend was awarded the prestigious
All-American City Award in 2011 and the city was asked to submit a square for the quilt.
Buttigieg, along with Heather Short-Davis, founder of Tinkx, a virtual communications
firm, will reveal South Bend's square Monday, January 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
"It is an honor for the City of South Bend to be awarded the All-American City Award. I
am happy to reveal our city's square of the quilt," said Buttigieg.
Short-Davis created South Bend's square for the quilt after volunteering once she heard
about the tour.
"We should all lend our talents to the community and this was a place in which I could
help. There are lots of images to choose from here in South Bend, which made it easy for
me to bring the city's uniqueness to our square," said Short-Davis.
A panel of jurors chose South Bend and nine other communities to receive the honor after
a three-day competition held by the National Civic League. The quilt will be displayed at
the Civil Rights Heritage Center at 1044 West Washington Street.
The special viewing hours for the quilt are from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. from Tuesday,
January 31 to Friday, February 3.
