MAYOR BUTTIGIEG TO PIN TWO NEW ASSISTANT FIRE CIIIEFS
South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg will pin badges on Todd Skwarcan, new Assistant
Chief of Services and Andrew Myer, new Assistant Chief of EMS on Wednesday,
February 15 at 9:15 a.m. The Badge Pinning Ceremony will take place in the Board of
Public Safety conference room on the 13t' floor of the County-City Building, 227 W.
Jefferson Blvd. in South Bend.
"I am confident in their abilities to carry out the responsibilities of their new roles as
Assistant Chiefs and I congratulate the two of them on their new positions," Buttigieg
said.
Skwarcan joined the Fire Department in March of 1994 and became a paramedic in 1997.
Skwarcan holds a Bachelor of Science from Indiana University in Business Management
and Administration, with a concentration in Finance. As Union Steward and Vice
President, he gained experience in negotiating contracts and working with the South
Bend Fire Department budget. He has knowledge of state and national labor law and
worked closely with the Fire Administration.
Myer became a firefighter in October 1995 and graduated paramedic school in 1997.
From his years with the department, Myer developed a history of building relationships
with the St. Joseph County Medical Directors, and other hospital staff. He also has
experience with staff at Notre Dame as well as experience as an instructor for EMS
certification education. Myer currently serves as EMS Captain.
"I chose both of these individuals because they are well respected members of the Fire
Department and both bring a tremendous amount of experience to the jobs. I fully expect
Chiefs Skwarcan and Myer to bring positive energy to these positions and help build the
culture of continuous improvement to the department," said Fire Chief Steve Cox.
