Joint Committee Meeting of the Health and Public Safety Committee & the Personnel and Finance Committee 2007 South Bend Common Council The December 10, 2007 joint committee meeting of the Health and Public Safety Committee and the Personnel and Finance Committee of the South Bend Common Council was called to order by Chairperson, Council Member Karen L. White and Chairperson Charlotte D. Pfeifer at 3:56 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting Room. Persons in attendance included Council Members Dieter, Puzzello, Varner, Rouse, Kirsits, Pfeifer, Rouse, White and Kelly; City Clerk John Voorde, Police Chief Thomas Fautz, Jamie Loo of the South Bend Tribune and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. Council Member White noted that the Committee Members of the Health and Public Safety Committee include Council Members Puzzello, Kelly, Dieter and herself; and that Pamela Brunette and Deborah Fleming serve as Citizen Members. Council Member Pfeifer noted that the Personnel and Finance Committee Members include Council Members Varner, Kuspa, Kirsits, and herself as Chairperson; and that the Citizen Member of the Committee is Diana Hess. Bill No. 71-07: Proposed Ordinance to Amend the South Bend Municipal Code by amending Chapter 4, Article IV, Section 4-30 addressing Hotels and Motels: Council Member White noted that a special joint committee meeting was held earlier on Bill No. 71-07 where it was discussed in detail. It appeared that there was a consensus that the Bill should be continued for further discussion to January 14, 2008. Council Member White noted that an editorial appeared in the South Bend Tribune yesterday which also addressed the proposed ordinance. She suggested that any additional concerns be sent to Council Member Pfeifer, the Office of the City Clerk or herself prior to January 14, 2008. Joint Committee Meeting Minutes of H & PS and P &F December 10, 2007 Page 2 Council Member Dieter made a motion, seconded by Council Member Puzzello that Bill No. 71-07 be continued until January 14, 2008. The motion passed. Miscellaneous Business: Council Member White noted that she has called a Health and Public Safety Committee meeting for December 19, 2007 to have further discussion on the implementation and enforcement of the scrap metal ordinance. There being no further business to come before the joint committee meeting, the Chairpersons adjourned the meeting at 3:59 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Council Member Karen L.
