BUTTIGIEG TAKES PART IN MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. CENTER GREEN
RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY
South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg will partake in the green ribbon cutting ceremony at
the Martin Luther King Jr. Center to highlight energy savings generated from an Energy
Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant that was awarded to South Bend. The ceremony
will take place on Thursday,February 23,2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The King
Center is located at 1522 Linden Avenue.
"I'm glad to see that the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant has generated
energy savings for this wonderful center," said Buttigieg.
Mayor Buttigieg will be joined by 2nd District Councilman Henry Davis,Jr., Jon Burke,
the Municipal Energy Director,representatives from the South Bend Parks and
Recreation Department,members of the community and the Green Ribbon Commission.
Funds from the grant went toward lighting upgrades for the center's gymnasium,which
has shown a 20 percent reduction in energy consumption in the building.
"The lighting upgrades represent the tip of the iceberg when it comes to energy
management and conservation around the city," said Burke.
