Chief Trevey informed the Board that he was in need of two netia
cars for the Departmettt and the Clerk of the Board was directed to adver-
tise for same. One car is to be traded in on these.
The Chief also indicated that he would be in need of a Mobile Radio
Receiver and Transmitter for one of the new cars and the Clerk was also
directed to advertise for the radio� both bids to be returnable on May
23, 19�+9.
A policy was adopted by the Police Departsent in regard to vacations
for new members o£ the Department as follows: Each new member shall not
receive any vacation until such t�ma as he shall have completed his pro-
' bationary period and the calandas year in which he was appointed.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTh�NT: _Mr� William Qualls� Superintendent� was present
and matters pertaining to his departnent were discussed.
A petition was received asking for a street light on Liberty Street
and Sample Street. This was referred to Mr. Qualls for investigation and
report.
Mr. Qualls recommended the installation of a �treet light at the inter-
section of Roberts and Ruskin Streets and the Board� upon his recommendation�
directed his to order the light insta�led.
WEIGHTS AND MEASURES: _ I�_�harles J. Burns� City Sealer� presented his
monthly report for April� 19�+9.
There being no further business to come before the Board� the meeting
ad�ourned at 12:00 noon.

May 9th� 19�+9 at 10;00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the
last meetittg were read and approved. Claims of the following suppliers

FIRE DEPARTI�IENT: Chief Andrzewski was present and matters pertaining to his
department were discussed.
Applications to the Fire Department were examined and ordered filed for
Joseph Stephen Kuhar� 1�lilliam Raymond 1�lensits� and Patrick Thomas Walsh� Jr.
An agreement between the Board and German Township for fire service was
agreed on.
POLICE DEPARTMENT : Clzief Trevey was present and matters pertaining to his
department were discussed.
' An application to the Police Department was examined and ordered filed for
Patrick Thomas Walsh� Jr.
Harry Nicodemus� representing the St. Joseph Valley Boat Club Inc, � and the
Junior Association of Commerce� Inc. � appeared before the Board to ask for
permission to erect specta'tors stands on Ironwood Brive Bridge on May 2�th
to May 30th inclusive. After a full d3scussion of the matter� it was the
Boasds decision that due to condition of traffic and the safety of people
using the Bridge� permis,sion should not be granted.
Emil De Wispelaere presented his application for retirement from the Police
Department effectine Ju1y l� 19�-9. This was approved by the Board.
ELEC2'RICAL' DEPARTMENT: Mr_._ t^lilliam Qualls Superintendent� was present and
matters pertaining to his department were d�scussed.
Mr. Qualls reported that lights ordered in on Linden Avenue� west of Olive
Street on Meade Street between Lincoln �d. W. and Bonds Avenue and on
Beyer �ivenue and Eddy Street have been installed and are now in use.
