The following men having passed physical examinations given b�r the
City Doctor and the Doctor appointed by the Firemen�s Pension Fund lrus-
tees are now appointed to the Fire Department for a probationary period
of six months� during which time they shall be paid the salary of inen on
a probationary �asis: Benedict S, Bajdek. Edriund J. Gadacz and Bert J.
Noo�akowski� Jr. -They were directed to report for duty February 25� 19�-$1
POLICE DEPARTP�IEPIT: Chief Everett �-ras present and matters pertaining to
his department were discussed, •
• Renetiral certificates for bonds for special police officers were
approved and ordered filed for Emiel Leon LeYens� Frank SzamecY.i and John
A. •Kopper. �
An application for the Police Departnent was approved and ordered
filed £or Nestor Paul Stachowicz.
� Dtrs, Goodall� representing Chapter �28 of the �American ldar Mothers�
came before the Board to request permission to sell flowers on the City
Streets on P�;ay 8� 19�+8. Permission was granted, •
• An agreement beti•reen the Board of Public 6lorks and 5afety ting in
benalf of the City of South Bend� and the Board of Com.�issions�/�� the
County of St. Joseph for radio service and facilities to be furnished
to •six (6) units of St. Joseph County by th e Ci�ty for the sum of �2�100.00
to be paid by the County in monthly installments of �1�5.00 per t�onth�
was approved by the Board. • - •

and matters pertaining to his departnent were discussed,
- 1�1r, Qualls reco�r�ended the installa�ion of street lights at the
intersection of Farneman and St. Joseph 9treets� Ewing Avenue and St;
Joseph Street� Olive •and Longley Streets� Howard an@ St. Peter Streets�
P-.eade and Plar.quette Avenue� On Liberty 5treet bettireen Jefferson and 1lestern�
and on i9ilbur Street between Elurood and Humboldt Streets. The Board� upon
i-'s, Qualls reco�nendation� approved these installations and directed P-ir.
� Qualls to order the lights installed,
t•ir. Qualls infor�ed the Board that lights ordered in at 47ashington
and Esther Streets� Sunnyside and Sorin Streets� Indiana and Pulaski
Streets and Pu�asY.i Strects had all been installed and were nota in service�
also that 1000 lumen lights at Sunnyside and l;'ashington Streets and at
Jacob and i4ashington Streets had been changed to 4000 lumen lights.

There being no further business to come before the Board� the Meeting
was adjourned at 10:00 A.i?.

A special neeting of the Board of Public Safety ��ras held on Thursday�
February 26� 19�+8 at 10:30 A.t�i. All �enbers were present. The r�eeting was
held for the purpose of awarding the bid for one �50 gallon punper for the
Fire DepaY�trient. •
After tabulating the bids� and a full discussion of the specifications
it was the decision of the Board to accept the bid of the h;axim P•.otor Company,
of Niddleboro� P�?assachusetts for the sun of �1�+,979.5Q� it being� in the
Boardis opinion� the lo�rest and best bid sub�aitted� ;uoject to the apnroval
of the Coru:^on Council.
There being no further business t o coMe before the Loard, the meeting
was adjourned at 12 :30 P.I�.,
