referenced special confidential purchase of an undercover Police vehicle in the amount of
$22,100 ($27,025 less $6,000 Trade -In).

Honorable Board Members,
The South Bend Police Department is requesting Board approval for the special purchase of
an undercover vehicle for the purpose of narcotics investigations. Due to the nature of the
vehicle use, the type, descriptors and dealership must be kept confidential as this would pose
an officer safety risk if this information should become public knowledge. The purchase price
of the vehicle is $27,025.55, we have a trade in allowance of $6000. The balance paid from
the,Federal Drug Enforcement Fund would be no more than $22, 100.00. 1 have found two
other comparable vehicles with listed prices of $27,778 and $29,988. The trade-in vehicle is
an undercover vehicle.
The purpose of the letter is to request the Board to approve the purchase, and approve the
release of the trade-in vehicle. And, to approve the purchase as a Special Purchase under IC
5-22-10-9. 1 believe you may have similar letters on file for previous requests.
