Board met in regular session at 9:00 A.M. All members present,

The following resolution was approved by the Board and Clerk

R E S 0 L U T L 0 N. OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC' WORKS
Shot: Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend,
Whereas there is a noticeable increase in unlawful and unauthorised_
obstructions in' --the public streets of said City such as gasoline pumps, -tanks,
pipes and other obstructions that are unsightly, and that result In divertin prt
private purposes. Therefore,.it is hereby declared to be the fixed policy of t
this Board to refuse all requests for permission to erect or maintain any struc.
ture.or thing within or upon any part of any strett or alley in the City of South
Bend, unless such obstruction from its nature is essential to the public -welfare
or is temporary in character only, such as partial occupancy of streets during
construction of.bui[lding on at�utting property. It is further declared to be
the purpose of the Board to require the removal of all existing obstructions
that area.ujnnW*ssary and unlawful, and that in any way interferes with the free
use and en,jetyment by the public, of any such street.

Gentlemen: -
We understand that there is a new ruling effecting the installation of
curb pumps for the sale of gasoline.
Our Company is not in the habit of furnishing outfits of this sort, and we
redline that it has been abmost overdone by some concerns operating in our -City. We have
on hand however two propositions which have been passed by our New York -Officials and we
would greatly appreciate your approval and permission to make 'installation in these
two instances,they are as follows: The Thomas Rubber Vulcanising ., at 131 Lincoln
Way East,° and the Pascoff Coal & Lumber Co, at 403 East Wenger S`'L°., These installations
will of course be made in'stric't accord with underwriters rulings.

Board ordered that the City Controller be notified to release
the sum of One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars to the White Construction Company on No. Main
Street contract.
Mr. McClave appeared before the Board in regard to changing
number at his store on E. La Salle Avenue. Two parties now have 435 E. La Salle
AveNue. It was suggested to give half number to upper flat and leave store No. 435
E. La Salle Avenue. Mr. McClixe advised to see the Englneering Department about
change in numbering.

Your communication under date. of November 8th., received, relative to
a fee on gasoline Filling Stations, I wish- to inform you that any .place where
gasoline is sold at retail;price, regardless whether it be a gasoline filling
stations or a Uaag Store, a fee of $15.00 is charged for each and every Pump. For
instance some of th`e'Stations in this City have 8 pumps which would amount to
$120 00.
