The safety and effcient operation of traffic at this intersection have been~the subject of numerous public meetings and discussions with residents in the surrounding area. The funds from INDOT for the improvement of this intersection have been credited to Local Road and Street Fund (#251). This ordinance appropriates $250,000 of the total funds to pay for design and other preconstruction costs of improving the IronwoodlMcKinleyAuenue intersection to assist safety and efficient traffic flow. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: SECTION I. The sum of $250,000 is hereby appropriated from the City of South Bend's Local Road and Street Account (Fund 251) to be used for pre-construction services needed to plan and engineer improvements to Ironwood Drive and McKinley Avenue at their intersection and for about one block in each direction on the approaching roadways SECTION II. This appropriation will cover the pre-construction improvements to the intersection of Ironwood Drive and McKinley Avenue and the approaching streets for about one block in each direction. This request for funds is for part of $2,000,000 from INDOT to fulfill their agreement to improve this intersection as part of the jurisdictional transfer of U.S. 20 to the City of South Bend.
