FIRE DEPARTIviENT - Chie� Freeh-present:
The Chief of the Fire Department recommended that the follawi.ng
pror�otions in the Fire Department be made to take effect November 16:
Lieu�. Jess Bryant promoted to Captain; Private Floyd Stoner, pro-
moted to Lieuten�:nt. The Board, af'ter cc3nsidering this recor,��end�tion
upon regular motion seconded and carried, confirmed the same and
instructions were given to make the change - effective as of Nov-
ember 16.
The Board appointed for service on the Fire Department, sub ject
to assignm�nt by t;�e Chief, o�e &1eZvi� J. Voelkel, t� begin duty on
December l, 1938.
ELECTRICAI, DEPARTP�IE'�Ti T - Ivir. �,ualls present:
Natters pertaining to the operation af the �Electrical Dep�zrt-
nent �rere discussed with Mr. �ualls.
A co?-rmunication having been received from the r�ayor, stating
that he had appointed J. `vYarren Freyermuth as a member of the Fire-
Alarm Divzsion of the South Bend Electrical Lepartnent, to take
effect on l�ov. 16, 19�8. The Board, upon motion �seconded and regular-
ly carried, confir�ed this appointment in accordance with the �Ilayor' s
request.
The Board, upon regular motion, seconded and carried, transfer-
red Carl Shaffer from the Electrical Dep�rtment signal station to
the Police Department of the City of South Bend, to serve as a first
cl�ss patrolman, waiving probationery period, due to �JIr. Shafferf s
elevenyears� experience of police duty in the radio department, taith
the understanding that he be assigned �'o-r special duty from Nov. 15
to Dec. lst at the signal station upon orders from the Po2ice Depart-
nent, tnen to be re-assigned by the Chief of Police for such regular
duties as th e �hief may deem expedient.

A cor,lmunication �vas received from Traffic E'ngineer I�Ziller with
reference to the petition for designating East ti�ayne Street from Eady
to Greenla�vn as a boulevard, tvhieh was ordered placed on file.
A corununication was received from Traffic Ehgineer Miller with
reference to over-time parking on the 140f2 block on Portage Avenue.
The Clerk oP the Board �vas ordered to comznunicate with Mr. Gadomski,
owner of the apartment house at 122� Portage-xvenue, requesting that
he notify his tenants not to occupy the pzrking sgaces more than three
hours at a time in accordance with the ordinance.

showing 120 inspections made. This report is on file in the ofPic�
of the Board of Safety.
