AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND,INDIANA APPROPRIATING $ 250,000 FOR MAINTENANCE OF
ALONZO WATSON PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
TRAVERSING CHAPIN AVENUE IN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND IN 2011
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
� A project pertaining to maintenance of City infrastructure assets �as been
identified of interest and benefit to the City of South Bend. This is the maintenance of
the Alonzo Watson Pedestrian Bridge traversing Chapin Avenue in the City of South
Bend.
It is necessary to appropriate the funds to make this maintenance expenditure.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA as follows:
Section I. The sum of$250,000.00 is hereby appropriated and set aside within
COIT Fund#404 for purposes of maintenance of the Alonzo Watson Pedestrian Bridge.
Section II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after i
passage by the Common Council and approval by ayor.

Dear President Dieter:
City Administration, after further discussion with Council, community leaders and citizen groups,
concerning the matter of disposition of the Alonzo Watson Pedestrian Bridge traversing Chapin Avenue,
herewith submits this appropriation spending bill for consideration of the Common Council.
The request for spending appropriation is $250,000, with funding provided by City Fund #404, County
Option Income Tax(COIT).
The appropriation includes Public Works Department of Engineering estimate of the cost of required
maintenance expense necessary to return the structure to a safe and stable condition enabling use of the
bridge by pedestrians traversing Chapin Avenue. Maintenance to be preformed can be identified as
follows:
