MEETING February 14, 1938
Regul�r meeting vf the Bo�rd of Public Safety was held on Mon-
day, Febru�ry 14, 1938, at 8:45 A. M. AI1 members were present.
. N:inutes of the previous meeting were read and app rovsd.
Claims frors the following suppliers in the amount of �I1I1.68
were approved and ordered paid. Aiso part.ial payroll in the Elec-
trical Department amounting to �18.00.

It was regularly moved, seconded and carried tnat Mr. Qualls
make up a very approYimate estimate of the cost of replacing o�-er-
head signals with the �'our-post type throughout the City and also
for completing the four-�ost installations as formerly planned on
, Lincoln Way ti"�est, with a view to making an arrangement with the
State Hi�hway Cor�m.ission for reimbursement of the cost of such re-
placements and changes on State Highways. rdr. �,ualls was asked to
report to the Board at his earliest convenience.
Mr. �,ualls presented a request from the signal men operating
in the Radio Station to secure badges indicating their connection
with the Department. The Board authorized this provided the men
would purchase their ov�n badges.
FIRE D�PARTi�I�1T - Chie_f Freeh present:
The Chief renorted regardin� a serious accident on February 8
while respondi�g to a. still alGrm at 1409 E. V�ayne Street and going
east on Jefferson, passing a street car. A Mr.. William Engle alight'ed
from the car, apparently did not hea-r the siren, tur:zed around to- con-
verse vrith the motorr,�an and tzen tu?�ned and ran into tne fire t�ruck.

The Board also called City Traf�ic �n�ineer i��TilZer, yir. G;ua.11s,
�n� John Gibbor_s to the meeting to discuss the matter of changing ov-
Erhead traffic signals to the f'our-corner post type, as outlined in
the minutes of the Electrical Department and also to discuss with N�r.

the State Police the matter of installing a Teletypet�triter in the Pa-
lice Department as outlin Ed in a communication received from the Ird-
iana Association of Chiefs of Police on J�n. 21. After a full discus-
sion of the matter, the Board gave permission to install a Teletyne-
����riter system v�rith the understanding that the inst�ll�.tion and mainten-
znce shall be at no cost to the City, an� that sn allov�ance of ��l�.00�
per mon�h be made to the City from xpril 1 to Dec. ��1, 19:"8. It i�� fur-

cided that a Police Officer be statior_ed at this location al_1
af�ernoon and evenin� on Saturdays to regulate t�ie traffic. The

Patrolman Zell for. their heroism in capturing the automobile
ban.dit Saturd�y .Febru�ry 5. This communicrtion uas ordered

A communication v��as receitred from the. Rotary Club commend.=
in� the Police Departr�ent and especially Capt. �Imstead, Serg�.
Detz,Ier and Patrol.man Zell for the capture of the automobile ban-
dit on Sat. Feb. 5, and calling attention to the important part
in thi:� capture that v�+as taken by tho4e h�ndling the Police Radio.
