Regular mseting c�f the Board of Public Safety was held on
T�4onday, February 7, at g:QO A. �l. All members were present.
Minutes of the previaus meeting were read and approved.
Claims from the following suppliers in the amount of �'I265.6�

FIRE DEP.ARZTIl�VT - Chi ef Freeh present :
Matters pertaining to the operation a� the Fire Detiartment
were discussed tivith the Chi�f. Applicati�n �'or a position on
the Fire Denar�nent was presented by Burt Christovrski and ordered
placed on file.
A communication _..t^�as received fro� Dr, H. H. Botts of the Vet-
er�ns Hos�i�;al in i�7arion, Indiana, with reference to the physical
condition of Schuyle r Lonzo, inwhich it was stated that the med-
ical staff finds his condition to be such that he is t'permanently
and totally disabled and inco�petent" of performing the duties of
z fire�nan. It was decided by the Board that due to this condition
Lonzo shall be relieved from duty on the Fire Department as of Feb.
l, 1938, and the Baard recon�raends that he be placed on pension t�s
of the same date. A copy of Dr. H. H. Botts' letter is on �ile in
the office oP the Bo�rd of Public Safety.
It was regularly moved, secon ded and carried that Robert Smit�i,
_ an applicant for a position on the Fire Dep�rtm.ent be appointed
to the Department as o�' PJlarch l, subject to physical examination by
the Fire Departlnent physici�n, Dr. Pauszek, a.�d also sub ject to ac-
ceptance by t�ie Fire:man's Pension Board, after examination by Dr.
Sensenich. Sub�ect also to a si�-�onth probation period and assign-
ment to duty by the Cni�f of the. Fire Departulent.

Mr. �ualls srrbm-itted a report of tne Polics Radio, shov:ing the
operations durino the month of January, copy o�' t���ich was f�rnished
each an ember of the Board and copy placed on file in the office of
Board of Public Safety. Mr. Qualls submitted a report of the various
� cities in Uni�ed States having palice Radiotelegraph TransMitters on
the air and are n�iv handlin� traffic. A copy of this re�ort was fur-
ni�hed each member of the Board and one copy placed on �'ile in the Of-
, fice o� �he Board of Publi-c- Safety. '

cuss an accident �vherein Police Car iJo. 3 u�as involved in a collision
tivith a car driven by C. L. Penrod, 522 Y�. Colfax Avenue. Atty. Nor-
r�an Hartzer represented T�frs.Penrod and v�as present at the meeting.The
re�ort of the Officer drivin, the car, to�ether ivith the general re-
port of the accident is on file in the office of the Board of Public
Safety for further reference.

The Board called in Po1ice Ufficers Ernest Buscn and �Gembarzet�ski �°3
to discuss the accident ��vherein car No. 21 was involved in a collision
with a street car at Sample and Michigan �treets. After discussing the
matter vvith the Officers, the Bo�rd gave ins�ructions to be very care-
ful on all occasions, particularl� with the Safety Car dTiving.
Chief Lane advised that orders had been given that �f�'icer F'red
Hammer shail present himself to Dr. Pauszek, the Police Ph�sician, for
physical exa�mination before he wou�.d be �laced'back on the police farce.
Applicatio�s for positions on the Police vepartment were received
�'rom Stephen Starzynski and Rollan d D, Stoner, and ordered placed on
file. � � �
The BoaPd, recognizin� vali�nt service on the part of the vario�is
Officers in the Palic�e Department -in apprehenc�ing an automobile ban-
dit on Saturday morning, Feb. 5, feels that definite recognition should
betaken, and. it was regularly moved, seconded, and carried that �apt.

Mr. Arthur Scheer, Attorney for ��r.n/tan.usiak, � whos� car figured
in an accident due to a manhole cover being Ioose, again presented his
cl�zimand it was rautually agreed that the City ti�-ould settle th?.� claim
on the basis oP �50.0�3.
The Traffic Bureau presented its re�ort of violation and enforce.--.
ment of Traffic Acti.vities durin� the month of January, a copy of which
was furni shed each member of the Board.
VJEIGHTS AND ME��SURES -
Mr. Burns submitted his report of activities of his Department for
the manth of January, s�owing 212 in spections made which report is on
file in the office of �he�Board of Public Saf ety.
