Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on �
P�ond�y, November 15, 1937, at 9:00 A. M. .All members were present.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and anproved.
Requisitions in the Police Department numbers 931 to 935 and
in the Fire Department numbers 03901 to 03909, inclusive, were
approved.
Claims in the amount of �845.36, from the following suppliers,
were approved and ordered paid.

FIRE DEPART1bqENT - Chief Freeh nresent:
The Chief requested the cooperation of the Police Department
in roping off streets at large fires in the downtotivn district to
keep the public from interfer�ing with the v.�ork of the department.
Police Chief Lane was ealled in to conference and it ti^Jas mutually
agreed that this should be done.

I�4atters pertaining to the operation of the Electrical Department
were discussed v�Jith T�Ir. �ualls.
POLICE DEPARTIvIII�1T - Chief Lane present:
The Chief sub�itted report of the activities of the Police
Department in its various branches for the month of October, copy
of which is on file in the office of the Board of Public Safety and a
copy furnished e�ch memb�er of the Board.
The Veterans League presented a Resolution adopted by the
meeting of Post No. 3 in Riv�r Park, a�ing that the traffic light
at Mishawaka Avenue and 30th Street be,�r�moved. Resolution was
signed by eight representative business men in that vicinity. Due
to the fact that the Board has not been requested to remove this
signal, no action was taken and the Resolution was filed in the
ofFiee of the Board of Public Safety.
A communication was received from the Internatianal Union of
United Automobile Workers of America, signed by A. A. Green, SecretarSr,
requesting that proper consideration be given Officer Arthur Campbell
fbr advan.cenient to a higher ranking off ice in the Police Force. Due
to the fact that there are no vacancies on the Force at the present
time, communication �vas ordered placed on file.
Communieation was received from the Mayor requesting that ail
City awned cars check in at the Water Vdorks Garage each evening not
later than 6:00 P. M. and check out not earlier than 7:00 A. M. and
remain in the garage Sundays and holidays, and was ordered placed
on file, due to the fact that all departments in the Board of V`r'orks
and Safety have been so notified.
Mrs. Frank V'Jhitehall requested that a traffic signal be placed
at �ddy and Madison Streets, which was referred to Traffic Ehgineer
Ernest Miller for investigation and recommendation.
Application for position on the Police Department was received
from ti"�illiam A. Mitchell and ordered placed on file.

Mr. Burns submitted his report of the operations of his department
during the week ending November 13th, �howing 244 inspections made.
Report is on file in the office af the Board of Public Safety.

FIRE DEPARTiVIENT - Chief Freeh present:
P.iatters pertaining to the operGtion of the Fire Department were
discussed �nith the Chief and upon his request to purchase a heater
for the Chie�''s car, there being sufficient funds in the budget, the
Board granted the request.
ELECTRICAL DEPAR�ZE�1T - R�r. Qualls present:
Natters pertaining to the operation of the Electric�I Department
were discussed ti�ith 'l�ir. Qualls.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present:
The matter of regulating traffic at various intersections of the
City during peak hours bettiveen 5:00 and 6:00 in the evening was .
discussed tvith the Chief and he tiy�s reauested to statian officers at
PRain and lk4onroe Streets, LaFayette and Pdonroe, LaFayette and South
Streets and Pdain Gnd South Streets betvreen these hours to avoid
congestion, particularly on i.�onroe Street an d also to see that double
parking is eliminated beti:�een Py�ichigan and rliain and Monroe during
this period. This decision vJas made based on recor,�nend�tion of
Cit,y Traffic Eagineer Ernest L4iller.
Traffic E��ineer I,�iller reported upon his investigation of a
request filed with the City Council for � stop and go signal at the
intersection of Portage Avenue, hn.gella, Blaine and Diatnond Avenues.
His report is on file in the office o�' the Board of Public Safety
indicating that the City is not justified in makin� this installation
and he does not recommend it. Petitioners have been so notified.
Traffic Engineer T�Ziller reported upon the reouest of Mrs. Fr�nk
�^hitehall for a stop and go signal at Eddy and Pdadison Streets,
recommending that it be not installed, as this signal was removed
