MEETING August 30, 1937 �

Regul�r meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
�
August 30, 1937, at 9:00 A. M. All members were present.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Requisitions in the Fire Department nurnbers 03817 to 03820 and
in the Police Department nuMbers 811 to 815, inclusive, were approved.
Claims, from the fbllowing suppliers, in the amount of �1,285.74 were
approved an.d ordered paid.

FIRE DEP�RTMEIVT - Chief Freeh presEnt: "
Matters pertaining to the oper�tion of the Fire Department were
discussed with the Chi.ef. ,
The Chief reported that smoke pipe at No. 7 Hose House is out
of repa_ir and should be replaced at once. The Board authorized this
and instructed the Clerk to have it done at once.
POLICE D�ARTMENT - Chi�f Lane present:
A communication was received from the Chi.cago South Shore and
South Bend Railroad regarding stop signs recently requested, in which
they withdrew their request for signs at Olive and Birdsell Streets
but again requested stop sign at Hydraulic Avenue. The Board agreed
to install this. They were advised and City Traffic Engineer Ernest
n4iller was instructed to install the sign.
A petition was received, signed by a considerable number of
residents in the x�est end, asking that the Police Department station
an officer at Prairie Avenue end Sample Street, Prairie and Chapin
Street and Prairie and Scott Street betv�reen the hours of 7:a0 and
8:00 in the morning. The first signer on this was Reverend Michael
. Os��ald and the petition was referred to the Chief of Police, so �hat
he may consult with the petitioners and make a recommendation at
the next rueeting.
WEIGHTS & It2EASURES DEPARTMENT - Mr. Burns present:
Mr. Burns submitted his report of the activities of his
department for the past week showing 219 inspections made. This
report is on file in the office of the Board of Public Safety.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 A. M. and the next regular meeting
being on Labor Day, the Board adjourned to meet on Tuesda.y,
Septer�ber 7th.
