Re�ular me�ting of the Board of Public Safety was held on
�,ionday, August 9 , 1937, a.t 9:00 A. M. All members were present.
Minutes of the previous meeting v�ere read and approved.
Requisitions in the Police Department numbers 783 to 795 and
in the Fire Department nunibers 03793 to 03804, inclusitTe, vrere
approved.. Claims, from the follosving suppliers, in the amount of
w998.73 were approved an.d ordered paid, also payroll of the various
depa.rtr,lents amounting to �19,269.66. ;

FIRE DEPARTIaiFNT - Chief Freeh present:
Matters pertaining to the oper�tion of the Fire Depart�ent v�rere
di�cussed with the Chief.
Th.e Chief reported accident to Trucic from Compa.ny No. 2, which
v,Tas struck by an east boun d South Shore train �vhile traveling north
on ti"lalnut Street at the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Voalnut
Street, the damage to the apparatus amounting to approximately �10a.00
exclusive of labor.

The July report of Radio Station 4'�PGN was submitted, a copy of
v��hich was given each member of the Board and one placed on file in
the office of the Board of Public Safety.
POLICF DEPARTIv7 +aTT - Assistai�t Chief Diedrich present:
Matters pertaining to the operation of the Police Department v,rere
discu�sed vrith the �ssist�nt Chief.
A letter ti�as re�.d in which the Ambulance Squad requested the
purchase of six v�rhite shop coa_ts to be used in ambulance work, t�iese
coats priced at �2.00 each ana 18¢ per coat for the lettering "PoliceT'
and Red Cross insignia. Upon regular motion, the Board authorized
this purchase.
Report from Police Surgeon, Dr. T. B. Pauszek, showing that
Officer Casimir Luzny passed physical ex�zmination, was received by
the Eoard.
Applications for position on the Police Department were presented
by V��alter Ames and James �,uinlan and ordered placed on file.
Official surety bond in favor o�' Billy PJI. Cholasinski in the
United States Fidelity & Guaranty Compa.ny was approved by the Board.
Continuation certificate covering surety bond of Casimir I,uzny
v�as approved by the Board.
The Traffic Bureau of the Police Department subnitted its report
for the month of July. A copy of this report w�s f'urnished each
member of the Board, �nd one placed on file in the office of the
Board of Public Safety.

A communica.tion was received from Traffic En�ineer Niller,
recommending the removal of overhea.d traffic stop and �o signals
at the intersections of Colfax Avenue and Hill Street and LaSall.e
Avenue and Hill Street, an d the iristallation of stop signs in
their place, due to unfavorable accident experience at these
intersections and also to reduce the hazard to school children
crossing these Aver_ues. Motion vras made a7�d regularly carried that
tn.ese signals be removed and stop signs installed. A copy of
Mr. Miller•s letter was .sent to St. Joseph's Parish explaining this
action.
. A communication from the Traffic �gineering Tra_ining School
of Harvard University concernir_g classes to be conducted August 16th
to 28th was considered and ordered placed on file.

Mr. .Burns submitted his repor� for the week ending August •7th,
showing 144 inspections made.
