All members were present. Minutes of the prevfous meeting were read and approved. Requisitions in the Police Department numbers 752 to 763 and in the Fire Department numbers 0783 to 0786, inclusive, were approved. Claims, from the following suppliers, in the amount of �224.51 were approved and ordered paid, also payroll of the various departments amounting to �19,119.66. Alfred M. Best Co. , Inc. �3.00 Nat*1. Sh�aet Nietnl VJorks 6.60 Willi�m Diedrich 30.00 The Gamevaell Company 30.66 FIRE DEPARTMII�T - Chief Freeh present: A Resolution signed by officers of the Central Labor IInion was . presented to the Bo�rd requesting that the salsry schedule for members of the Police, Fire and �lectrical Departm�nts for the year 1938 be established upon the 1930 salary Ievel by the enactment of such Ordinance as may be necessary. This communication, after being fully � cansidered, was ordered placed on file. � ELECTRICAL DEPARTMII�TT - Mr. Qualls present: Matters pertaining to the operation of the Electrical Department � were discussed with Mr. Qualls. _" It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that Frrancis Bock, bearing the title of Chief Radio Operator, be requested to be present at the next meeting of the Board on Monday, August 2nd, at 9:00 A. M. for the purpose af discussing with him matters pertaining to the operation of the Raclio . ��d Al�rm Station. POLICE DEPARTIIffiF�TT - Chief Lane present: Matters pertaining to the operation of the Police Department were discussed with the Chief. � A comrsunication fram Traffic E�gineer Miller was received, advising that Mr. Farnham., now operating a Bus Station on Lafayette at Jefferson Street, is expecting to move to 207 East Jefferson Street and that he v�ould like to have the same facilities as a loading zone for the �ccomodation of one bus at the nevv location. This request was granted. Traffic �igineer Miller recommended that the overhead traffic signal at 141iami Street and Indiana Avenue be removed, due to the traffic being insufficient to justify an overhead signal. The Board concurred in this recomnendation and instructed Mr. Miller to carry out suggestions made. Traffic Engineer Miller recommended that the overhead traffie signal, at ck nham Drive and Lincoln Way East be removed, on account of the � accident record at that location, due to violations of the signals on account of very low volume of traffic experience. The Board concurred in this recommendation and ordered the signal removed at once and Lincoln Ulay East made a preferential highway by placing stop signs on Twyckenham Drive. Traffic Eagineer Miller reported that he had interviewed a good many business men in the vicinity of sor�e of the factories, who have complained about unlimited parking in front o�' their places of bu�iness and that he v�ould recomm�nd Three Hour Parking signs be est�ablished vahere such calls are made, which �vould have the effeet of limiting the parking, although regulation wauld be difficult. The Board, after discussing this matter, decided to try it out and Mr. Miller was requested to establish a fevl of these zones and v�atch the results. 126 _ : . . .�' - .,��..� � Traffic Ehgineer Miller sugge�ted that No Parking signs be � erected on the south side of Monroe Street between Scott and Chapin �� Streets, due to the narrow street. The recommendation was concurred in by the Board and orders given to carry out the program. . Traffic Ehgineer Miller recommended that the overhead traffic signa]. at South Bend Avenue and Notre Dame Avenue be rer�oved, due ta the fact that very light traffic invites violation and increases accident hazards. The Board coneurred in his recommendation and he was instrueted to earry out the program and establish stop signs on Notre Dame Avenue on both sides of South Bend Avenue. Official surety bond in favor of Elenor Von Hoene, Police Woman, in the United States Fidelity & Guaranty Compang v�as approved by the Board. Leonard Krulewitch was �ppointed to the Police Department, subject to physical examination and assignment by the Chief of Police, on probation for six months, the date of his aceepta.nce on the Department to be determined after physical exa�ination is made. The Board again consider�d the matter of allocatin� a one car taxi stand for �1. D. Hutchinson and felt inclined to give him this privilege if he v�*ould suggest a favorable location and secured perm.ission from the occupants of the f'ronting property. The Board considered giving him the location at Wayne and Allichigan Streets or in the 200 block on the north side of Ea.st Jefferson Street.
