MEETING July 19, 1937 �

Regular meeting of the Board" of Public Safety was held on �
Monday, July ].9, 1937, at 9:00 A. I�. Mr. Hunter was absent.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Requisitions in the Police Department numbers 742 to 751 and
in the Fire Denartment nunbers 03979 to 03782, inclusive, were
approved. Claims, from the following suppliers, in the am.ount of
�644.42 were approved and ordered paid.

FIRE DEPARTi'1IE�TT - Chief Freeh present:
The Chief reported having��made a trip to Columbus, Ohio to
inspect the new Seagrave Pumper and stt��ed that it would be delivered
to the City of South Bend within the next wesk.
ELECTRICAL D�.PARTIvIENT - Mr. Qu�lls present:
Matters pertaining to the operation of the Electrical Department
were discussed with Mr. �,ualls. It was decided to ask

render their monthly claim� for -electric current in tv�ro vouchers - "
one to cover the lighting af the City and the other to cover the
traffic li.ght system, CommunicAtion was c�irected to the Indiana &
Michigan Electric Company accordin�ly.
Mr. Qualls, having been requested by the Clerk of the Board to
secure the police badge bein� worn by Carl Shaffer, stated that
Mr. Shaffer ref�zsed to give up the badge. The Board directed thet
PJlr. Shaffer appesr before the Board at its next meeting to discuss
this rnatter.
POLICE DIl'ARTNt.IlVT - Chief Lane �present:
Matters pertaining to the operation af the Police De�artment
were discussed v�rith the Chief, particularly�the situation with
reference to labor difficulties at . the various factories in the City.
Application Por position on-the Police Department was presented
by Harry Francis Carey and ordered placed an file.
Traffie Engineer Miller repor-ted in reference to the parking
situation. on George Avenue north oF Sample Street and recommended
certain restrictions, copy of v,�hich is on file in -the office of the
Board of Publie Safety. The Board concurred in this and instructions
were given to carry out the plan.
Mr. VJ. g. Hutchinson aga�n appeared before the Board regarding
establishment of a one car taxi stznd, and after discussing the
matter with him the Board decided to hold this up for one week until
full membsrship of the Board is present.
� _�" Surety bs�nd� in:.favor: of Richard.�. Stickley, newly appointed
police �officer, was approved by the Board.
N7EIGHTS & MEASURES DEPARTMENT - IVir. Burn s p r e s ent:
Mr. Burns made his report for the week ending July 17th showing
346 inspections made.
