MEETING July 12, 1937 �

Regular meeting of the .Board of �Publie Safety was held Monday, �
suly 12, 1937, at $:45 A. �. ?Vir. Hunt�r was absent.
Minutes of the two previous meetings wer� read and approved.
Requisitions in the Police Department numbers 734 to 741,
inclusive, : and in the Fire� Department numbers� 03773 to 03778,
inclusive, were approved. Claims in the emount of �1,150.72, Prom ,
the following suppliers, were approved and ordered paid.

FIRE D�PARTMEIVT - Chief Freeh present:
Matters pertaining to the operation of the Fire Department were
discussed with the Chief.
The Chief reported that he-had received word from the Seagrave
Corporation that the 750 gallon pumper is ready Yor delivery and to
call there on Friday for final inspection.
' ELECTRIC:AL DEPARTMENT - �Ir. Qual�.s present:
Matters pertaining to the operation of the Electrical Department
were discussed with Mr. Qualls. He stated that the controls for the
traffic signals at North Michi�an Street and North Shore Drive were
being shipped and receipt af� same would enable him to com�lete that
installation very shortly.
POLICE DEPARTMEI�TT - ChieP Lane present:
Mr. Hutchinson was present and requested the privilege of
occupying the space of one automobile at some conven.ient point on
South Michigan Street or East Jefferson Street for the operation of
a taxi cab. Mr. Hutchinson was advised that this matter tivould be
held up until all members of the Board were present.
The matter of ventilator in the alley west of the LaSalle Hatel
was discussed and the Chief advised that the C�rparation is will�ng
to put an iran grate over the opening, removing the screen, and 'the
Chief was instructed to follow this up and �see-that this was done,
The Chief brought up the question of Resolution presented by .
the Association of Commerce and, after discussion of this matter,
it was decided to write the Assaciation- that steps had already been
take�: to curb the practice of permitting sale of raffle tickets on
automobiles and other accessories at the curb �on various streets.
The Association was so informed.
The Board appointed Richard A. Stick7.ey to the position of
patrolman. on probation for six months beginnin� July 16th, sub�ect
to physical examination by the Police Doctor and to acceptance as
a member of the Pension Ft�nd by the Pension Physician, sub�ect to
assignment_ by the Chief of Police. ,
City -Traffic Ehgineer Miller presented a request from the
Bantam Ball Bearing Company for angular parkin� on the north side of
Sample Street in front of their factory, outlining advantages and
disadvantages. After considering the matter fully, the Board deQided
not to permit this to be done.

City Traffic �ngineer, Ernest Miller, reported a request
from A. S. Einoris for parking limitation in front of his place
of business. APter considering this matter fully, the Board
decided not to grant this request.
W�'_..IGHTS 8c MEASURES D�PARTNIIlVT "- Mr. Burns present:
Mr. Burns submitted his report of the operations of his
department during the past week, vrhich report is on file in -the
office of thg Board of Public Safety; showing 314 inspeetions made.
The meeting adjourned at 11:15 A. M.
