Postponed meeting o#' the Board. of Publie Safety was held on �
Tuesday, July 6, 1937, at 9:00 A. �VI. Mr. Hunter was absent.
, Requisitions in the Police Department numbers 705 to 733 and
in t�ie Fire Department numbers 03768 to 03772, inelusive, were
app'roved. Claims in the amount of �735.59, from the following
suppliers, were approved and ordered paid, also payrolls of the
various departments amounting to �19,231.66.

;The Ch3.ef reported that��the neighbor east of No. 4 Fire
Statian would like �o� erect°`;a. fence between the tv,o properties
if the Board of Safety would tie willing to pay one half the
expenses. The Board concurred in this- su�gestion -and instructed
the Chief to make the necessary arrangements.
The Chief reported that the extension chimn ey on No. 2
Fire- House was in bad� condition and needs replacing. The Board
authorized the replacement ta be made at onee.
Application for position on. the Fire Depart�ent was
presented by Byron C. Collogan and ordered �placed an Pile.
Application for position on the Fire Department was
presented by Roland' Arthur Penrod and ordered placed on file.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTIviE�TTT - Mr. C�ualls present:
The Board discussec��with Mr. Qualls the petition of Post
No. 1167, Veter�.ns of Fore3gm Wars, and in view of the report
of Officer Miller the Board felt that due to the limited
accident experience in this vicinity no change in the present
set-up is justified. ` ` �
A reayuest Por the instal].atzon �of a street light at
Irvington and Dale Streets was presented to the Board and
Mr. Qualls was instructed t�o make an investigation and subnit
his recommendations at the next meeting of the Board.
Mr. Qualls requested �that he be gi.ven bne week from
August 7th to 14th for part of his vacation this year. The
Board agreed to give h�n thi:s time if it would not interfere
with the consideration of the- 1938 budget by the Common Council.
The City Physician, Dr. T. B. Pauszek, made a report of
the services rendered by him to officers �in the Police and
Fire Departments for the months of April; May and June. A
oopy of this report has been submitted to each member of the
Board and is also on file in the office of the Board of Public
� Safety. . �
A communication from Frr�ncis J: Bock to the Mayor was
submitted to the Board vrith reference to the installation of
two-zvay police radio communication. This matter v�Tas diseussed
with the Chief who offered the opinion� that two-v:ay commun-
ication was still in the experimental stage but that, no doubt,
some time in the future t�ie� Police Department must seriously
consider its installation.. Copy of thi s report was furnished
each member of the Board for later consideration.

Communication_ was received frorn 0�'ficer Miller with reference to
num.erous requests for loading zones, orange pain.t, _time limit restric-
tions, etc. to prevent employees oP varzous� factories from parking all
day in front oP business pl�.ces. After diacussing this matter with
the Chief, it uas decided that: a capy be furnished each member of the
Board for his investigation and consideration at a later meeting.
A communication. was received from th� Association of Commerce
enClosin� a ResoTution requesting the discontinuance o�' privileges
per��tting the sale of Iottery chances on prizes, including motor
vehicles and accessories on the City streets. This matter was referred
to the City Attorn.ey and the Chief of Police for investigation and
recommendation.
The Chief requested authority from the Bo�ird to have the new
officers who have assumed positions on- the Police Department since
the last FiTSt-Aid Lessons were given the entire Police Force �also
take lessons at this. time as soon as they can be arranged. The Board
concurred in this and the Ch�ef" was gives proper authority.
Offioers Stasinski .and Barcza repo�rted� an accident to Police�
Car No. 13 in which Mrs.. Anna J'. Toth; R. R. 5, Box 342, ran into the
rear of the police car . doing damage to� the estimated extent of �55.00.
The Clerk of the Board v�as directed ta� inform this person and to
collect for the damage.
Renewal certificates covering suretsr bonds were approved i.n favor
of police officers Fred DeLee, Albert Pope�-and Harold Vlhitmer.
Resignativn of Mike Rzepka was submitted to the Board to take
efPect July 15th. On regular motion seconded� and carried, this
resignation was accepted. `
Resignation of PoI.ice Woman Min.nie E�rans was sub�itted to the
Board to take ePfect August 15th, it being understood that the tvro
weeks from August lst to 15th will be considergd as her vacation for
this year.
The Board appointed Elenor Louise Von Hoene as Police ti"�oman to
take effect on August Ist, on a probationary period for six months,
sub3ect to assignment by the Chief of Police. It being understood
t2�at she work with the present Police Woman, Minnie Ev�.ns, from
July lst to August lst without pay.
Special poltce officers commission .�v�s-issued to Paul Hayes while
Superintendent of the South Berid Park Department.
Speci�l police _officers commission- was issued to Thomas M.
Geraghty, who will drive for Fred Hamilton and assist him in his duties
as merchant police. ,
The ChieP submitted �report of the aetivities of the Police Depart-
ment for the month of June, which report is on file in the oPfice of
the Board of Public Safety.
The Traffic Bureau of the Police Department submitted its report
for the month of June, shotving report of �aecictents and parking
violations. A copy of this report was fl�rnished each member of the
Board and is also on file in the office of the��Board of Public Safe��.
WEIGHTS & D�S D�ARTl�[ENT - Mr. Btirns °present:
Mr. Burns submitted his .report of the activi.ties of his department
for the week ending July 3rd, show�.ng 242 inspections made. This report
is on file in the office of the Board of Public Safety.
