MEETING June 28, 1937 �

Regular meetin� oP the Board o� Pub�ic Safety was held on Monday,
June 28, 1937, at 9:00 A. M. All members were present.
Minutes of the previous meetin� were�-read •and approved.
Requisitions in the Fire Department numbers 03764 to 03767 and
in the Police Department numbers 687 to 704, inclusive, were approved.
Claims in, the amount of �248.53, from- ths follotiving suppliers, were
approved and ordered paid.

FIRE DEPARTMELVT - Chi e f"`Fre eh p re s ent:
Matters pertaining to the operation oP the Fire Department were
discussed with the Chief.
A communication was received from C1am Smith, Chief of the State
Fire Ma�shal Department, cnlling� attention to- desirability of inember-
shiP in the National Fire Protection Association at an- exDense of
ten dollars per year. The Board authorized this expenditure.
FLECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - MT. Qua�lls present:
Mr. Qualls reported having superi:ntended the cutting and replac-
ing of wires to move a house -for �J'ohn Adamski � from 2613 West Monroe
Street to 427 Camden Street and �having collected �p6.50 for this service.
Mr. Qualls reported with reference° to- recommendation of Francia J.
Bock for_the purchase of a receiving set,� as outlined in his commun-
ication of June 18th and recommended that this be purchased. The Board
authorized the expenditure and Mr. Qualls was instructed to make the
necessary arrangements. � � .
Mr. Qualls reported that he had made a request of the Indiana &
Michi�an Electric Company for the installation of a street light at
William and Calvert Streets and that a 1000 lumen lamp would be
installed as soon as the Company could arrange to do it. .
POLICE DEPAR�EIVT - Chief Lane present:
The present serious illness of Officer Arden Kline was discussed
with the Chief and, due to the seriousness of the case, it was agreed
that he would be retained on the regular Police Force until other •.
action became necessary in the near future. .
Officer Miller reported regarding the removal of overhead traffic
signals at Bronson and Monroe Streets on Lincaln Way East and it was
decided to have these signals removed at once. �
Officer Miller reported regarding the stop sign at the inter�
seetion of LaSalle Avenue and Greenlawn, suggesting that it be removed,
in which the Board concurred.
� The Board discussed the question� of shrubbery growing in the
parkways at various intersections and causing hazards from the stand-
point of safety. After discuss�ng this matter, it was decided that -
the City'Attorney draw up a form to be used in notif'ying property
owners of the situati�on and requesting them- to take the necessary
steps to remove the hazard.
The Police Department reported racilroad crossings of the
Pennsylvania Railroad at various locations. �n the City were in need of
re�air. The Clerk of the Board was directed to communicate with the �
Railroad and ask them to have� these repairs made at onee.

Chief Lane reported that�� OfPicers Elmer Sokol, Willman L. Welch
and Floyd Zellers; whose probation periods expire on July Ist, have
all conducted themselves properly and he no�v recommends them for
service on the PoZice Force� at� regular pay. The Board concurred
and the Clerk was instructed to make such record.
AppTication for position as� police woman on the Police
Deuartment was submitted�by Elenor Louise Von Hoene and ordered
placed on fiTe.
Officer Miller reported that at the intersection of Ford and
Meade Streets five collisions have �been experienced and that during
1936 there were four at this same intersectian. Due to buildings
novr occupying sites at this intersectio�x; visibility is poor and
Officer Miller reconmended that stop- sign�s be installed on both
sides of Ford Street on Meade Street. The Board concurred in thts
recommendation and ordered the signs installed.

Mr. Burns submitted his report o�' �the work done in his department
for the week ending June 26th, showing 276 inspectians made. This
report is on Pile in the office of the Bor�rd o�' Public Safety.
