FIRE DEPkRT�aIF1`3T - Chief Freeh nresent:
The Chief reported th�t all operators of rire antiaratus are
un�ergoing rigid tih,ysical examination for the purpose of establishing
their fitness to operate f'ire trucks. Z'hese tests v,�ill continue
until all of the thirty-two r�en on the department h�ve been ex�.mined.
The Chief recuested that the Bo�.rd authorize the �urchase o�'
tv,;elve chairs ; ,tti:�enty rubber st�ir nads and tnirty-six v,findo�t- sh�.des
for the netn� fire st�.tion. There bein� suf�'icient money in the bud�;et
for this nurpose, tn.e purcn��se t^,�as authorized.
Henry Back�ren, an aptilicant for position on the Fire Dep�rt-
��ent t���:s ex�rni�.ed by the Board ancr a�ter a discussion, it vcas
regularly r��oved, seconaed and curried that ne be �laced on the Fire
De��:rtr�e�t as of July lst, sub ject �o assi�rL�:nent by the Chief' of tne
i+'ire Den�:rtment �nd also �ubject to his �assin� the �hysical exam-
ination of the Police Doctor arld the Pension Physician. It is
understood that he is on probation for six r�onths.

The. Chief submitted a report of' Francis J. Bock, ivhich v�ras
addressed to iir. �ualis, re��rdin�; the o�eration of the Police R�iC�lO

Officer T��Jliller re�orted that the sto� signs at the intersection
of' LaSalle l�venue and St. Louis Boulevard should be reversed, due to
. the fact that LaSalle kvenue carries the heaviest tra�'fic. The Board
concurred in this recor,imendation and ordered the signs chan�ed.
Officer i�Iiller renorted that the shrubbery at LuFayette Blvd.
and NaV�.rre Street betta�een t�e sidetivalk and curb is a hazard and
reco��imended that tnis be ordered re.noved or �ri�Lmed. The Board
ordered th�:.t the oti5�ner be notiiied.
