Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety v�ras held on ivZonday,
I14ay 24, 1937, at 8: 45 p. P�I. Al.l members �ti�ere present.
� I��Zinutes of the previous �neeting were read and approved.
Requisitions in the Fire Department numbers 03724 to 03729,
inclusive, and in the Police Department numbers 601 to 6I5, inclusive,
��aere a�proved. Claims in the amount of �585.2Q, from the folloivin�
suppliers, v�-ere approved and ordered paid, also pzyr�ll of the various
departments amounting to �1s,128.66.

The Chief discussed with the Board matters pertaining to the
operation o�' the rire Depart�ent, and vras authorized to purchase a nev,�
clocr at a reasonable �rice for Station No. 5.
ELECTRIC��L DEP1�RTivI�tT - Mr. �ualls �resent:
. P�atters nertaining to the operation of the Electrical DepGrt�ent
�ti�ere discussed zvith P:Zr. �,ualls and he re��orted that he was �akin� �ood
pro�ress in the installation of the traffic signals at 'v"�'illiams Street
and Lincoln Vvay Vdest and th�t they would soon be installed.
POLICE DEPkRTPJIIlVT - Chief Lane �resent:
Tne Chief called a.ttention of the Board to a Tra�'fic 0�'iicers'
Short Course at Purdue University fror.l June 7th to llth and recomm ended
th�.t one or t�vo officers be enrolled in this course. The Board, after
considerin� the matter, decided to send Ofiicer Ernest H, n.2iller and
if another could be sent t^:ith a cor:ibined exnense oi' not over fifty
dollars tne Chief should reconmend another of�'icer.
Special police coramission in f�vor of George E. Fa�'ord, wnzle
er.mnloyed at tne Edt�;ards Iron ;";orks, ivas u:�proved by the Board.
Report of accident to Police Car No. 13 occupi.ed by Officers
Barcza and Rozanski on TQay 22nd was made and, a�'ter a discussi�n of the
m�tter ��,�ith the Chief, the Bo�rd issued instructions th�t all �olice
of�icers entering cars shall do so from tne right-hsnd side and further
that any d�a�e that is dor_e to police cars amounting to more than
�5.00 the occupants of the car at tne time shall appear before the
Board a� i�s next meeting.
The Board issued instructions to the Chief of Police that he
reauest ��'ficers Rzenka and Luczny to �pvly ior nension. They to
discontinue on the Police Force on July lst but to re�nain on the �ay-
roll until July 15th, the last tv:o v:�eeks bei�g considered their
vacation f'or the year 1937. If this is not agree�ble to them, they are
to t�Ke a pnysic�l exa�ination to justify the Board in retainin� them
on the Force.
Officer ;"�7iitner submitted �: list of reloading eQUiprment and
supplies offered to the City for use in reloading cartridges used in
target nractice, as f'rom one-hali to three-fourths of a cent can be
saved on each target used by emnloying this eq_ui�ment, the reloading
ar_d refillin� to be done by police of�'icers during their spare time.
The entire cost to be �90.46 , ti��nich includes sufficient ingredients
to load four thousand cartridges and prime twenty five hundred more.
Tne Board, after carefully considering this proposal, �uthorized the
nurchase to be deducted from the Police Instruction Account.
Officer Ernest ?-i. n�iller sub�nitted a re�ort concerning the vGZue
of e�tendin� the time of operation of tra�'fic signals af'ter midni�ht
in the dotitintown district. After carefully considerin� this �a.tter,
the Board ref'erred it for final dispflsition to the Chief of Police,

Mr. Burns submitted his renort for the tiveek ending M�_y 22nd,
shoNTing 465 inspections made. This report is on file in the oPfice
of the Board of Public Safety. •
