MEETING April 26, 1937
Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
April 26, 1937, at 9:00 A. M. A.11 members were present.
Minutes of the previous meeting �aere read and approved.
Requisitions in the Police Department numbers 544 to 554 and in
the Fire Department numbers 03696 to 03701, inclusive, were approved.
Claims in the arsount of �}240. 22, from the following suppliers, y�ere
approved and ordered paid, also payroll of the various departments in
tne amount of �19,025.66.

ELECTRICAL DEPARTMII�TT - Mr. C�ualls present:
Matters pertaining to the operation of the Electrical Department
were discussed with T�r. �;ualls.
FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief �reeh present:
Matters pertaining to the operation of the Fire Department were
discussed with the Chief.
PaLICE DEPARTMIIVT - Chief Lane present:
The Chief brought up the question of various organizations
contemplating the raffle of autonobiles at the curb on various streets
of the City and af'ter a discussion of the matter the Board decided that
it would li�it its distribution of permits to such organizatzons who
would conduct these sales vYith their o�vn local representatives or
member and that no such permits shall be issued to any organization
which employed outside interests to engineer the project.
Special police officer's commission was approved in favor of
Geor�e Eichler �vnile employed as food inspector in the Health Department.
Surety bond in Pavor of Truman E. Nichols, as special police
officer �or the Nev1 Jersey, Indiana 8c Illinois R. R. Co. , was approved
by the Board.
Surety bond in favor of Andre�v V. Daly, regular police officer,
v�.Tas approved.
Communication was received from the I��irror Press requesting that
tne parking suace in fror_t of their building be designated as a loading
zone. This �natter was referred to Officer Tuiller for investigation and
reeommendation.
Report was made by Officer tdiller that at the Bendig U�arehouse,
north:vest corner of Garst and R�ain Streets, tvTO driveways need painting
to call motorists attention to the opening. The Board instructed that
this be done.
Officer 1�,4iller reported upon tne request of James Cover, vrho
operates a filling station at Lincoln tioay tirest and Taylor Street, and
stated that T1Ir. Cover has a 50 ft. opening and that the curb is painted
S ft. east of the drive and that he would not recommend making any change
at this location.
The Flack Cigar Co�pany requested that a loading zone be established
in front of their place of business on ti"�est FTayne Street. This matter
��:ras referred to Officer ldiller for investigation.
Application for position on the Police Department was presented by
Milo F. Cool and orderecl placed on �ile.

Mr. Burns subr�itted his report of work done during v�eek endirig
Apri? 24th, showing 167 inspections made. Mr. Burns' activity this
week vras curtailed because of his attendance at the tvaenty-fourth
a.nnual Conference of Indiana j'yeights & Measures Inspectors at M�rion,
Indiana ex April 19-th to 21st.
