P�EETING April 19 , 1937
Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on
Monday, April 19, 1937, at 9:15 A. M. All members were �resent.
Minutes af the �revious meeting �vere read and appraved.
Rec�uisitions in the Police Departinent nunbers 532 to 543 and in
the Fire Dep�rtment numbers 03688 to 03695 v�rere approved. Claims,
from the follo���ing suppliers, in the a.MOUnt of �836. ?6 were approved
and ordered paid.

FIRE DEPA.RTIy'IENT - Chief Freeh present:
TJlatters pertaining to the operation of the rire Department were
discussed �^rith the Chief.
The Chief requested the privilege of purchasing the following
supplies for various Hose Houses: 1 Dozen Chairs for Central Station,
ne��: screens for windotivs for iVo. 11 Hose House and lavm mot�er for
No. 10 Hose House. Permission was �i�ren to the Chief to m�ke these
purchases.
The Chief' reported that a coramittee of firemen desired an
audience �vith the Board to discuss wi�h them the possibility of
establishing former salary o�' �170.00 r�er month for firemen. The
Board advised the Chief they �r:ould be glad to receive such a committee
at any time.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTD.4IIVT - 'VIr. Qualls present:
Matters pertaining to the operation of the Electrical Depart�nent,
particularly the traffic signals at the Bottle Neck and on Lincoln
�;uy �";est ti•yere discussed and plans made for installation.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present:
The r.iatter of �urchasing t�tiTo additional new motorcycles was
discussed and �i�t was deciided to �urchase two netiv Indian i•o'totorcycles,
the s�e as ti�ere purchased earlier in tne year, and that one Henderson
TJlotorcycle be used as a trade in.
The Chief submitted a report of the ballot of the members af the
Police Depart?�.ent in reference to the purchase of uniforms for one
year from this date, it being shown by itemized ballot that the
follozving was the result:

In vietiv of this b�llot, the Board issued instructions to the Chief
to have all members of the Police Force purchase their uniforms fram
A. G. Meier & Co�npany for the period of a year v�rith tne understanding,
of course, that should any defect in worlQnanship or quality arise
that the matter vaas sub�ect to reconsideration.
Application for position on the Police Departr�ent was received
froin �tiallace Ray Zirnmerman and ordered placed on file.
Official bond in the i�daryland Casualty Company in favor of
Joe �2illard, special police officer employed by ���ilson Bro�hers, was
approved by the Board.

Officer Miller recommended that new left turn diagram be �
�ainted on the intersections in the principal down to�vn corners. The �
Board ordered that the Street Department be iristructed to supply the
labor for doing this work.
T�Zr. Frank Negley, member of the Board of Directors ofl the Epworth
Hospital, requested that the �our intersectians at Main and NaVarre
Streets be painted 'THospital Slow". The Board concurred in this
request and orders titi�ere issued to have the vaork done.
A request v�ras received from Sergeant Burns that the practice of
providing motorcycle escorts for furierals be discontinued. This was
referred to the Chief for further irivestigation.
Officer Miller reported regarding the petition to control trucks
and trailers over �n�ella Boulevard �and Z"�oodward Avenue that to remove
these trucks from this route would force them to some other route no
more desirable. Under these circumstances, tne Board took no action
regarding this petition.
VJEIGHTS & MEASURES DEPARTMFNT - �rir. Burns present:
Mr. Burns subr�itted his report of work done the week of April 17th,
showing 367 inspections made. This report is on file in the office of
the Board of Public Safety.
The meeting adjourned at 11:15 k. M.
