NIEETING April 12, 1937
Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tvlonday,
April 12, 1937, at 9:00 A. T�I. All members were present.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Renuisitions in the Police Department numbers 518 to 530 and
in the Fire Department numbers 03685, 6 and 7 were approved. C1.aims,
from the followin� suppliers, in the �mount of �156.63 ti�ere approved
and ordered pai.d, also payroll of the various depa.rtments amounting
to �18,936 . 66.

FIRE DEPARTMEI�TT - Chief Freeh present:
P�Zatters pertaining to the operation of the Fire Department were
discussed vrith the Chief.
A��lication for position as fireman �rras receiZTed from George
Robert B1iler and ordered nlaced on file.
ELECTF.ICAL DEPI�RTT��ZE'�Ti T - I�Ir. C�,ualls present:
Mr. �,ualls submitted a cor.ununica.tion for changing various police
c�.11 boxes from Sergeant Claude Keller. This matter was referred to
the Chief of Police f'or investigation as�.d recommendation.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present:
The Chief submitted report of the activities of the Police
Departrlent for the m.onth of Ifarch, which report is on file in the
office of the Board of Public Safety. .
A netition signed by ten persons requesting the enforcement of
time limits for �arking on tne east side of Chapin Street from Ford
Street to Orchard Street wa_s presented to the Bo�.rd a.nd referred to
Officer P�Jliller �'or investigation �.nd recommendation.
. Accident report was made by Officer GembarzeUrski addressed to
Assista.nt Chief Diedrich occurring at E�raing Avenue and IJlichigan
Streets on A?�ril llth. This re�ort z��as referred to the Chief of
Police for further investigation and a full report to the Boa_rd.
Officer Plliiler presented an ite�ized list of the traffic signs
wnich it is hoped can be purcha�ed for the cos�plete change of present
system oi par�ing ar.d s�eed li�it regula.tions. Prices are being
secured from various manufacturers. Report will be ma.de at a later
meeting of the Board.
Communication from G. E. Bursley & Company, Elkhart, oper�:ting
wholesale grocery business at �Vestern Avenue and RZain Street,
rea_uesting nore narking space on tne south side of their building,
v�a.s nresented to the Board znd referred to Officer Pvliller f'or
investigation and report.
A petitior_ signed bST thirteen residents, reauesting that he�vy
trucks an d serii-trailers be refrained from using Angell�. Boulevard
and V;oodv�ard Avenue, ���as presented to the Board and referred to
Officer ivZiller for investigation and reco�unend�tion
Application for position on the Police Departnent was received
from Leonard Krulewiteh an.d ordered placed on file.

Continuation certificate covering special police officer's �
commission in favor of V�illiam J. Borsodi was approved by the Board. �
Officer _P.riller reported that � hazardous condition has been
crea.ted at the main driveway to the Singer Parking Lot on V`destern
Avenue and suggested that this could be eliminated by painting curb
on each side of the drivev��ay for distance of tv�renty five feet. " The
Board concurred in this and requested Officer Miller to have the work
done.
Officer PJliller reported that at Ev��.ng Avenue and Fellov�s Street
a hazard has been created due to obstruction to visibility by bushes
growing too high and recommended that these be trimmed and also that
the north side of Ewing Avenue fro� the corner �'or a dista�Lce of
thirty six feet be entirely restricted from parking. The Board
concurred in these recommendations and gave necessary instructions to .
carry them out.
Officer Miller, having investigated the re�uest of the NasY�
LaFayette Sales Company for painting curb at their Used Car I,ot at
225 North j"rilliams Street, recommended that these people be rec�uested
to have a legal drivev�ay established, which v�as concurred in by the
Board.
Officer Miller recommended changes in the parking restrictions
on the v�est and north sides of the United States Post 0�'fice to
permit the apnroach to two mail boxes no1N established on the Main
Street side and to restrict parking on the Jefferson Street side to
fifteen minutes. This recommendation was concurred in and Officer
I.7Iiller requested to make necessary chan�es at once.
Officer Miller reported on the request of' Burton S. H�siaTell for
a loading zone on the north side of Vdashington Street and recommended
that no such zone be established. ihe recommend�.tion of Officer
Miller th�t a loading zone be established in each block on both sides
of the street at the alley �vas considered by the Boarc� �s impractical,
due to deliveries of heavy packages. No further action was taken.

Mr. Burns submitted his re�ort of the work done during the v�eek
ending April lOth, shot���ng 423 inspections made. This report is on
file in the office of' the Board of Public Safety.
