Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held an Monday,
April 5, 1937, at 8:�r5 A. M. A11 rnembers were present.

Requisitions in the Police Department numbers 503 to 517 and in
the Fire Department nur:lbers 03678 to 03684, inclusive, were approved.

Application for position on the Fire Department was presented
by Anthony Paul Miller.
Anthony Paul Miller was appointed to position on the Fire
Dep�rtment subject to physical ehamination and passing by the Police
Doctor and also ap�proval by the Pension Doctor, appointment to be
effective April 16th, subject to assi�nm.ent as to duties by the Chief
o� the Fire Department.
B. H. T��Iroz was appointed to position on the �'ire Department
subject to physic�l examination �nd passing by the Police Doctor and
also approval by the Pension Doctor, anpointment to be effective
April 16th, subject to assi�nLnent as to duties by the Chief of the
Fire Department. .
Upon rec:ommendation of the Fire Chief, Fireman �rthur Broitin is
promoted from fireman to Lieutenant, replacing Orla Parker who was
put on pension, effective date being April 16, 1937.

A. V. Daly was appointed to position of police officer, subject to
assignment by the Chief of Police and subject to physical exar,iination
by tne Police Surgeon and also approval by the Pension Physician and
also subject to apnointment as to duties by the Chief of Police, under
r�robation for six months, appointment effecti;re April 16, 1937.
In accordance t:ith subpoena issued, Iv2rs. Nellie Edwards and
Mrs. T�Iaude Petrovrski presented tnemselves be1'ore the B�ard and upon
exarnination under oath stated tnat the nembers of the Police Department,
while they t�ere under arrest for intoxication, h�d at all ti�es treated
them in a gentle�anly manner. .
Speeia� nolice co�.nm��sion vaas issued to Oliver Vr. Davis �vhile
employed �s Assista_nt Elec�ric�l Inspector for the City of South Bend.
Special police cor:ir�issions for tne follov��ing speci�l police officers,
while employed at the Bendix Products Corporation, were approved by the
Bo�rd: Raymond H, lvliller, I�erLneth H. Idorgan, Charles E. Hesch and
Richard A. Stickley. Bond in the a.�~!iount of one thousand doZlars has
been furnisned in each case.
Surety bond in favor of special police officer, Forest E. Scott
in the lJlaryland Casualty Company was approved by the Board. �

G�rner was approved by the Board.
Communication vras received from Mayor Freyermuth notifying the
Board that in accordance to new traffic ordinance Officer Ernest H.
Mil].er is a.ppointed as Traffic Ehgineer for the City. The Board �
concurred in this appointment. �
Monthly report for iJlarch was subr�itted by the Traffic Bureau
sno��ring enforcement activities, which report is on file in the office
of tne Board of Public Safety.
The Nash LaFayette Sales, 343 Lincoln ti�ray ti"dest, requested that
the curb on each side of their entrance to their used car lot be
painted orange at 225 North ti'Villiems Street. This matter was
referred to Officer Miller for investigation and recommend�tion.
Sketeh was submitted for laying out parking restrictions on the
R4ain Street side of the Post Office. This matter v�as referred to
Officer PV�iller for recommendation.
A sketch was submitted by Bernard S. Haswell suggesting traffic
movement in the alle�s in the dovmto���n district. This sketch and his
comments t^rere referred to Officer le�iller for investigation and recortunen-
dation. �

P�r. Burns submitted his report of the work done during the week
ending April 3rd, shoi�ring 440 inspeetions made. This report is on file
. in the office of the Board of Public Safety.
The meeting adjourned at 10: 30 A. M.
