Beaning appeared before the Board and took up matter of having the Palace Theatre Corporation replace present conduit in proper condition in the City Hall Court from lst. alley west of Michigan Street easttto Michigan Street., The Board referred this matter to the Buildinie Commissioner to notify the Palace Th eatre Corporation to replace present conduct in above mention City Hall Court as the fire and police slams are in this conduit and wish to stay there. Mr. H. N. Barnes appeared before the Board with Guy Staples of Sta)ies& Hildebrand Co. and the utter of cement for pa ement on South Michigan Street was talon up and discussed and Mr. Staples'assured -the Board that cement would be secured for Mr. Barnes to complete his contract. Bids Were received opened and read for water connections on Division Street. Bid of Wm. H.'Burke Short side, each $21.00 Long; side, each 26.00 Bid o-f Thos Williams Long side, each 26.45 Short side, each 21.30 Contract awarded to Wm. H. Burke to start work immediately. Petition received and placed on file for street light -on Kessler Blvd. and Marquette Avenue. Ref erred to Pole and Wire Inspector for investigation. Petition received.fare light at the corner of Hill Street and Howard Same referred to the Pole and Wire Inspector for investigation and report. Remonstrance filed against pavement on Poland Street from Webster St. to Walnut Street. Petition received and resolution ordered for sewer on Summit Street from Hill Street to St. Louis Street. ' Petition filed an --I resolution ordered for sewer.on Woodward Avenue from Angella Avenue to Hudson Avenue. Petition received for change of grade on Angella Avenue and wood ward Avenue, referred tothe City Engineer. Petition received read and placed on file for pavement on Marietta Street from Broadway to Indiana Avenue. Petition received read and placed on file for pavement on Sunnyside Ave from E. Washington Avenue to La Salle Avenue. Partial estimate allowed to L. H. Webster for pipe sewer on Georgianna Avenue frm South Bend Avenue to St. Vincent Street at.................1 1,757.92 Partial estimate allowed L. H. Webster for pipe sewer on Caoline Street -from Dayton Street to Calvert Street at....................:...1,697.96 Partial estimate allowed Williston Construction Co. Contrs. for pavement on Donald Street from Miami Street to Leer Street at..................04,136.53 Contracts were awarded as follows: - Concerning the improvement of the roadway of La Salle Avenue from West line of Bridge to E. Line of Main Street with asphalt, asphaltic concrete, bitulithic, concrete, or brick, in pursuance to Resolution No..1002 this Board finds that no petition has been filed with said Board by a majority in number of the free- holders residing on said street to be improved, requesting that it be improved with a different kind of pavement than the kind heretofore adopted by the Board in its preliminar order; and the City Wngineer reports that the Williston Construction Co. is the lowest and best bidder for the kind of pavement heretofore adopted by the Board, and the Board find that the Williston Construction Co. is the lowest and best bidder and hereby lets the contract for said improvement to them and orders that said improvement be made with Sheet Asphalt altd all proceedings'heretofore had in this matter are hereby confirmed and approved. Dated this 15th. day of August 1922 Concerning the improvement of the roadway of Alley between River Side Drive and Wodward Avenue from Golden Avenue to Vassar Avenue with asphalt, asphaltic concrete, bitulithic, concrete or brick in pursuance to Resolu- tion No. 998 the Board finds that no petition has been filed with said Board by a majority in number f the freeholders residing on said street to be -improved, re- questing that it be improved with a different kind of pavement than the kind heretofore adopted by the Board in its preliminary order; and the City Engineer that the Hoban & Roach is the lovast and best bidder for the kind of pavement heretofore adoptedby the Board, and the Board find that the Hoban & Roach is the lowest and best bi der and hereby lets to contract for said improvement to them and orders that said improvement be made with concrete and all proceedings hereto- fore had in this matter are hereby confirmed and ratified. ' Dear Sirs: - With reference to the request of your board that this Company under take the improvement of that portion of the steet occupied by its track on East Madison Street, from Eddy Street to Judie's Addition and of La Salle Avenue from the Bridge over the St. Joseph River, to Michigan Street, under the same terms and nditions as governed,-the.•improvement of South Michigan Street,.from a poijjt forty--(40) feet north of Fairview Street to Donmoyer Avenue, we beg to advbse as follows The Chicago,. South Bend 8e Northern Indiana Railway Company will under- take both of.the above improvements am the same basis of agreement as that stipulated for the improvement of South Michigan Street from a point forty (40) feet nort of Fairview Stsest.-to.Donmoyer Avenue. This agreement was covered by ore our letter dated Tuesday m April 4th., 1922. s On account of certain new conditions that have arisen since our agreement of April 4th.9 above mentioned, and with which your Board is familiar this Company desires to state that in extending the terms of the above agreement to cover the improvement of East Madison Street and La Salle Avenue, it is under- stood that its action in so doing shall not bind or prejudice this Company in any nay in regard to the improvement of any other -streets on which it may have tracks, and which may be now or in the future ordered improved by your Board. Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana: That it is desirable to vacate the following: -- The alley lying between lots 183 and 184 in the Original Plat of South Bend, Indiana from Main Street to the first alley East of Main Street. The following property may be injuriously or beneficially affected by such vacation: Beginning at the intersection of the North line of Navarre Street and the east line of Main Street; thence north on east line of.Main Street to the second alley north of Navarre Street; thence east along said alley to the west lin a of Michigan Street; thence south on the west line of Michigan Street to, the north line of Navarre Street;,thende west on the north line of Navarre Street to the -place of begin - Notice of this resolution -shall be published on the 18th, day of AAugust 1922 and on the 25th. day of August 1922 in the South Bend Tribune and News - Times This Board at its office in the City Hall on the 6th. day of Septem or 1922 at 7:15 P.M. will hear and receive remonstrances from all persons inter- ested in or affected by these proceedings. Remonstrance signed by a number of resident property owners on Ewing Avenue filed with the Board in regard to damage done to the pavement on said Ewing Avenue by C. E. Staples house -mover. This remonstrance referred to the Street Commissioner for investigation and report. Petition received and referred to the Light inspector for cluster Tights on La Salle Avenue from Michigan Street to Main Street; and following report approved by the Board. I beg to recommend.there be seven light posts placed on La Salle Avenue. Three posts st the north side -and four posts on the south side of La Salle Avenue between Main Street and Michigan Street.
