The Chief suggested that �parking on the Colfax �venue bridge
be liriited to one side o�' the street only, due to fire hazard when
cars are na.rked on both sides. It tivas regul�.rly moved, seconded and
ca_rried that the privile�e oi p�rking be discontinued on the north
side ot' tne bridge. .
The Chief reported tha.t the booster tank in use at No. 6 Hose
House had rusted out and repair ti°fas impossi.ble. He w�:s recuested to
secure bids on a nev� one be�'ore raGking the purchase.
A cor.imunication i^��as receiyed from the Sa�'ety Bo��rd of the City
o�' Niles extending their grate�'u1 appreciation for response of our
Fire Department in cor�b�,ting fire at the Garden City Fan Co�lpa_ny on
January 14th.
A communication v�as received from the TTiles Ch�,mber o�' Comr�erce
e�roressing its apnreciation for the service rendered at the same time.
The Secretary t�-as instructed to aclrnoti�.-ledge these letters, i-��hich
��:ere then ?�laced on file.
The Chief reported havi�.g investigated tne situation at the
�risto Cleaners ��:ith the Building Cor.imissioner s�d recommended
favorable action r:�itn tne understzndir.g th�t use of fire proof
m�terial and � rire proof door in its construction be complied ���ith
by the Aristo Cleaners. A simil�r report v��as received fror.i
i��r. Tt�:oo�na�;y.
The Chief renorted in reference to construction o�' � tool shed
under the sidev��alk a� the Poledor� Build�ng, as recjuested bf Leo J.
Lamberson, �ttorney; for Poledor Bros, riavir_g inzTestig��ted the
matter, 'r_e recor�ended that per�!ission be �ranted. to construct �.
shed 10 x 20 ft. oi fire proof type. The Secretary �n���s instructed to
notify IEir. L�3r�berson th<it occup�ncy ma;� bE continved until such time
��_s the City r,i��y neeu tne spuce f'or otner purpo�es.
Tne Chie�' repor�;ed the follo�-rirg oificers on probation as having

Tne c�uestion of par}iin� on ttle north side a_t the Colfax �vent�e
briclge titi��:s discussed ��rith the Chief �nd it ti^1Gs decided that parkin�
be eliminated on the rorth side of Colfax brid�e from the e�st side
of the bridge to T��iichi�an Street. It was regularly rnoved, seconded
�aid c�.rried thc.t this be ado�ted but that the execution of' this
order be deferred by the �Chief fo�r one v��eek. �

J�nuary v�Jas submitted and a copy iurnished eGch member of the noa.rd.
The Chief submi�ted report for the month of January in detUil
' of the activities oi the� Police Department, shov�-in� arrests for
variot?s re�.sons - total of 375 arrests. Tnis re�ort is on file in
tl�e of�'ice o�' the Board of Public� S�..fety.
