Regular meeting of the Boa.rd of Public S�fety was held on
Monday, December 21, 1936, at 9:00 A. TJI. A.11 members v�ere pr•esent.
Minutes of the previous nieeting were read and approved.
Requisitions in the Fire Department numbers 03586 ta 03594 and

The matter oi' instGlling net�; tra�'�'ic lights on Lincoln ti;'ay Vyest
xras discussed tivith Mr. 6�ualls and, due to increased cost of m�teri��ls
since estimate was made, it was czecided to install three-light signals
�.t ti7illi�m Street, Cushing Street and Blaine Avenue.

Mr. Burns presented his reports o�' the vrork done during the last
month, which reports are on file ir_ the o1'fice of the Board of Public
Sa.fety.
POLICE __L`EP��Tl�2II�TT - Chief' Lane present:
AJlatters pertaining to the operation of the Police Departrnent were
discussed tivith the Chief ��nd it v�as re�ularly moved, seconded and
carriecl that the purchase of neva radios for �;he net�� cars be authorzzea
and that installation be r�ade as soon as possible. It was decided to
buy Philco radios because of the �'act that this Company have a regular
service department in Soutti Bend.
The matter of sending an officer to Washingtor_, D. C. in the
coming year to attend a school of instructions was discussed and the
Chie�' Vaas i.nstructed to bring zn a report next TJlonday as to the cost
to the City.
Special police commission was zpproved in favor of Robert 1��laxey
while employed by the Park Departznent.
Communication was received� �'rom lJlotor Service �C Parts requesting
that some arrangement be made for restric-ting parking in front of' their
place of business. This matter was re�erred to the En�ineering DePart-
r�ent of the Accident Prevention Bure�.�u f'or investigation and recom-
mendation.

Officer Ernest Miller reported on request of David Fein�old
of 444 South Chapin Street for three hour parking in front of his
place oi business. The Eoard decided that no considerution could
be given this request , particularly in viev� of the fact th�t the
present Parking Ordinance �tates that at no place in the City may
cars be parked longer th�n three hours. 1V�r. Feingold's recuest
v�as placed on file.
A comr.�unication v�as receivec� �'rom the Common Council, through
City Clerk Mary B. L. Taylor, requesting that a11 cars owned by
the City be properly labelled as being City property. The Secretary
v:Tas instructed to noti�'y all departments to this effect.
� The Board approved purchase order• for six nevr cars for the
Police Department, a_ copy of Which is or. file ir_ the office of the
Board of Public Safety.
Application for posi�ion on the Police Department �;vas received
from Fra.nk A. Hudson and ordered placed on fi1e.

the Board.

ending December 26, 1936, showing 155 inspections made.

Thursd�y, December 31, 1936, a.t 4:00 P. M. All members titiere present,
also Chief of Police Lane and Mayor Freyermuth.
Tne m�tter o�' vacancy on the Police Departr!m.ent v�as discussed
and after regular motion, seconded and carried, Floyd Zellers titi��s
appointed to the Police Department, subject to physical examiilation
by the Police Physici�n and appointr:�ent �s to duties by the Chief
' of Police, to begin his duties January lst, probational period to be
sih months.
The cuestion of purchasing notorcycles vlas uiscussed v�ith the
Chief, who recomrlended that ttiro motorcycles be purchased T10Z�J and
tvyo some time in April, and it ti��as decided to secure bids from tti��o
manufacturers, namely: The Indian and the Harley Davidson, for
consideration at un early meeting of the Board.
