MEETING December 14, 1936
Regular meeting of' the Board of Public Safety was held on P��onday,
December 14, 1936, at 9:00 A. M. A11. members tf�ere present.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Requisit.ions in the Police Depart�nent numbers 287 to 298 and in
the Fire Department numbers 03578 to 03585, inclusive, were approved.
Claims in the amount of ��'1,036.87, from the follovling suppliers, vrere
� anproved and ordered paid.

ELECTRICAL DEPl�RTMENT - P,Zr. �;ualls present:
The Board invited Ia2r. John V'�. Gibbons of the National Safety
Council to the meeting and together tivith 11iIr. C�ualls had a general
discussion in regard to changes conterzplated in the tra�fic lights
on Lincoln Way ti'1est. T:Ir. Qualls presented facts indicating that the
cost of making these changes early this year will be less than present
costs, particularly if three-li�;ht si�nals are used. It tivas decided
to give this matter further consideration and to call a special
meeting of the Board for j";ednesday morni�g, Dece�ber 16th.
FIRE DEPkRTivTE1VT - Chief Freen present:
l�7atters pertaining to the operation of the Fire Department were
discussed v�ith the Chief.
POLICE DEP�RTIJIEIQT - Chief Lane present:
The Chief' reported a serious accident to the ambulance �vhen it
was making a trip to the nospital ►•�ith G.n injured man and was struck
at Chapin Street and V�lestern Avenue by a small Ford car and wrecked
to such an extent that it is rendered absolutely out o�' cor,�nission
and vrorthless. In discussing this matter tivith the Chief, the Board
suggested thst he make arranger�ents tivith undertakers in the City to
help out on our ambulance work until it can be established hoUr to
finance the ne�v �bulance.
The Board discussed with the Cnief tne purch.ase of six new
cars for the Police Department. Bids i�;ere received from the following
and it v�,�as decided- to purchase these six cars from Studebaker's after
they made a concession of �100.00 from the original bid: +

The Board appointed Frank E. J'ankowski to the. Police Department
on probation beginning December 16th, end of probation to be June 15th,
subject' to examination by the Police Doctor and appointment as to
duties by the Chief of Police.
Resignation o�' 0�'ficer Edward Tdoritz, dated December l�th, was .
presented to the Board to take effect January 1, 1937. The Board
aecepted this resignation regretting the necessity o�' Officer P�oritz
finding it impossible to continue in his duties as police officer. -
Communication titi�as received from Elmer E. Cook, Principal of the
Thomas Jefferson School, stating that they were enjoying the protection
that the Boy Patrol Signs are givin� the school and he hoped the Board
would continue this and also provide . Boy Patrols for other schools.
It was the concensus of the Board that this was a splendid method of
slovving up traffic and �vhen f'unds can be provided further definite
consideration vai11 be given.
� discussion was had in the Board regarding violation of parking
privileges. It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that the
Chief be requested to instruct all members of the Police Force that
they shall not book anyone in Court for violation of overtime parking
for the first offense, but that record shall be kept of all such
violators for future reference.
Application for position on the Police Department was received
from J'ames C. Kroger and ordered placed on file.
Surety bond covering special police con.:-:�ission o�' Robsrt L. Kizer
was approved. .
