All members v�.ere present. Atlinutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Requisitions in the Fire Department numbers 03561 to 03571 and in the Police Department numUers 257 to 265,. inclusive, v��Tere approved. Claims in the amount of �240.67, �'rom the following suppliers, vaere approved and ordered paid. Charles L. � Strome of the Holycross 8c Nye Company, representing Ford automobiles, were present regarding the anticipated purchase of cars for the Police Department. After presenting the merits of their cars, the Board decided to take : the matter under advisement �fter consulting v�ith �he Chief of Police. Mr. VJilli�m E. Pov4ers of the National Brake Service, 225 West Jefferson Street, was present �nd requested that fifteen minute parking be established in f'ront of his place of business. This matter, after discussion, was referred to O�ficer Ernest lti�Iiller for investigation and report. WEIGHTS & l��iEkSURES DEPk�TPJIENT - rr7r. Burns present: Mr. Burns discussed vTith the Board matters concerning the vreighing of coal at this season of the year to inform the Board of the procedure necessary in establishing grades and weights. The Board requested him to brin� to their attention any serious infrQctions which he may discover. Mr. Burns presented his report of inspections for the ti�veek ending November 28, 1936, shotiving 273 inspeeti�ns made. FIRE DEPARTIti�TT - Chief Freeh present: The Chief brou�ht in charges against Fireman Valentine Jablonski for disorderly conduct, he bein; found in an intoxica�ed condition at the Notre Dame - NorthvJestern football game November 21st. Fireman Jablonski was c411ed in and the matter discussed. He acknowl- edged havin� been in this condition, and egplained his version of the reason therefore. The Board decided to take the matter under advise- �ent for another week before definitely deterr�ining their action in the matter. A petition, signed by a considerable number of Republiean party colored workers, was presented to the Board and a copy sent to the lt4ayor, requestin� that colored applica�ts for position on the Fire Department be given consideration in the fillin; of vacancies. After discussing the matter v�ith the Chief, the petition was ordered placed on file for future consideration. The question of neiv equipment for purchase in 1937 was brought up and the Chief was instructed to submit his reconmendations at an early meeting of the Board. ELECTRICA_L DEPl�RTN�NT - �JIr. �,ualls present: I�4atters pertainin� to the opera�ion of the Electrical Department v�ere discussed v:ith I��gr. �ualls. �� . � � � POLICE DEP�RTMEI�TT - Chief Lane present: �� � The Chief submitted his report in reference to �'ifteen minute parking at 219 , 221 and 223 South Main Street as per report of Officer Ernest l�Ziller, who stated that fifteen minute parking could not be enf'orced and f'or that reason did not reconmend that it be established. Final decision regarding this was held up pending further investigation by the Chief of Police. A request v��as made of the Board to exchange two German make c�.meras purchased in June of 1936 for use in the Accident Prevention Bureau for one Graphlex camera at an additional expense of approximately �50.00. Due to the fact that the cameras previously purchased were not adequately adap�ed 'to this �arork, upon regular motion seconded and carried the Board authorized the egchange, the original cameras being traded in for practically the same price paid for them. � The matter of ne��a cars for the Police Department to be purchased under the 1937 budget tvas discussed and it was the concurrence of the Board that the Chief make his recor�mendations as to what type and make oi' cars should be considered. The Chief j�vas requested to make his recommendations at an early meeting. A vacancy appeared on the Police Department, due to the resi�- nation of Captain William Hosinski. The Board, upon recommendation of the Chief, upon regular motion seconded and carried decided to re- instate John I. Nor�hrup, subject to physical examination by the Police Doctor and also passin� for the pension fund Doctor and subject to assignment of duties by the Chief of Police. The Seeretary reported having received responses for bids on Car No. 6 that was demolished in an accident recently and bids were received from the Scherman-Schaus-Freeman Corporation - �50.00, South Bend Auto Parts Cornpany - �40.00 and the PJledoti�� Salvage Company - � �22.50. The Board authorized Scherman-Schaus-Freeman Company to remove the wreck from the Water Vlorks Garage, allovaing �50.00 on car purchased next year.
